At 6-4, 195 as a HS junior, with 4.6 to 4.8 speed, I'd say White's future is as a TE. He's not through growing, and Madden would have him up to around 225 pounds by the end of his freshman year.
That would be fine with me. We're loaded at WR, but TE's with his talent are rare and coveted.
TE or WR, DWhite will be a serious threat. In the last several years the Big 12 has seen the quality TE become as much of a game changer as the big WRs. This is from a conference loaded with WRs, too. Texas has a history of developing great TEs, so either position should give us a killer receiving option.
Come on Mr. White, don't keep us waiting until February, make your class the best in the nation before May 2009!!
Not that it really matters but why would OU not offer him? They have offered almost every other WR in Texas of note and Stoops does not seem particularly concerned about tossing out offers to top players, whether or not they have interest in OU.
If you want a good laugh, go to TxAgs and read the posts under Darius White visiting next weekend. The Ags are peeing all over themselves that he is coming for a visit. My fav is the guy who says that White is going to say good things about his visit on Saturday and commit to the good guys on Sunday. Lets hope he is right. My other fav is this:
"Gentleman, the tide is turning. I think once he sees the Spirit of Aggieland, he puts off his decision. You can bet Sherm puts the full court press on him, shows him that he and Fuller would be unstoppable, capped off by the players showing him a fun party or going to Northgate. We have to hope that TU might get lazy, saying they don't wanna wait. This could be the big fish we are hoping for."
Honestly. I wonder if some of you have a clue at times. He will NEVER be a TE. He projects as the best WR in the nation. Just because he is tall does not mean he will get bigger.
Watch the film. He aint running any 4.8 in the film. And this kid will be too valuable running fades to try to make a te out of him. We can use this kid. I look forward to seeing him on the 40.
I've watched the film, and he doesn't look all that fast to me. On a couple of those punt returns, he gets pulled down from behind. I'd say 4.7 in the 40 is about right.
And you can make a TE out of any kid with his size. Just work on his blocking and bulk him up. Jermichael Finley was pretty rangy in HS, about 6-6, 245 lbs., IIRC.
40 times are not a measure of top speed, guys. A 4.7 time for a kid this size is really good. And at top speed he's clearly faster than 9 of 10 DB's he's facing in that video.
But I agree, a good WR should never get tackled, ever. Some of those highlights didn't even go for touchdowns. Gosh.
