Dan's Hamburgers

Sandy's isn't in the same class as Dan's/Fran's. They have good malts, but their burgers border on cafeteria-esque. Fran's (then Dan's) was the first meal my family ate in Austin when we moved here.

Top Notch/Dan's/Dirty's is the holy trinity. But wtf happened to the Dirty's onion rings? They've gone done the tube recently. Casino is the new school pace setter, with a nod to P. Terry's.

The Texas Legislature seems to think the first hamburger in Texas contained mayo which included some dry mustard.

(My grandmother who fried up burgers for us as kids, included mayo on hers, but she would have been well into her 90s by now, so what would she know?):

WHEREAS, Although it was served with slices of fresh-baked bread instead of a bun, this early version of the hamburger was the much like it is today and contained ground beef, ground mustard mixed with mayonnaise, a large slice of Bermuda onion, and sliced cucumber pickles; customers could also enjoy fried potatoes, served with a thick tomato sauce; when the journalist from the was told that Mr. Davis had learned to fix potatoes in that manner from a friend in Paris, Texas, he misunderstood and described the item to his readers as french-fried potatoes; and

Well, I haven't been in years, and I suppose the burgers took a slide when "The Health Department" made Wes stop pulling the meat out of the container and shaping it with his hands...forced to use preformed patties. It was always a show to see him, "whap whap whap", flatten the ball of meat into a patty ,using a cut off masonry trowel for a spatula, then flip it with his fingers. And now you say the rings have gone down hill? Oh, the Humanity!

tried Hang Town off of Burnet...

atmosphere lacks, especially considering Phil's is right down the rode.

Burger was tasty. It has the same char-grilled taste as Burger King. However, much better than burger King. Fries were solid and the price was right.

It was either the BK Broiler or some other fast food place that had a "char-grilled" burger.

The meat tasted EXACTLY the same. What separated it from a ****** fast food burger was the fact the meat wasn't made out of a meat-like substance. But it did taste exactly the same.

the fats domino at huts is my burger of choice, and their fries and rings are great. the bun could be better. i have never been impressed by p. terry's. patties were too small and the fries were sysco food service quality (this was right after it opened...i've never given it another chance).

Gawd, how I miss those Holiday House #5 Flameburgers!
