Perhaps the only way Beard gets hired is that language is included in the contract.

This is certainly possible. It could even be boilerplate for high profile people whose public image can create significant financial benefits or losses for the employer. If maintenance of a positive public image is part and parcel of the employee's value (which an arrest on serious charges can damage regardless of the legal outcome), then perhaps that language is a requirement.

I think he left to take a walk and cool down, and that’s when she called the police. He returned to the house and went to bed in the guest bedroom (where it sounded like he had been camping out before the ruckus). When the police showed up I think they were both at the house.
