CWS Game 10 Texas v. Virginia June 24, 2021

Won’t we face the 2nd pitcher who had a short outing last time or the 3rd pitcher?
That would be nice. But I thought MSU was sure to trot Bednar out there.

BBBBBBBBBBednar!?!?!?!?!?!

How about for us, what do y'all think for tomorrow:

Ty Madden = starter

Kubichek = middle relief

Gordon = middle relief or closer

Cole Q = alternate closer (he didn't throw many pitches tonight)

?????

That would make no sense. Save him for the finals opening game. Tomorrow is not an elimination game for them. If they lose tomorrow, he pitches Saturday, and then he is available for game 3 of the finals.

I noticed the strikezone got quite a bit more reasonable after Vasil left the game. The home plate ump must've been his uncle.
It sure seemed to.
Also, this ump really liked calling inside balls as strikes. Vasil almost hit us a few times, yet the ump called them strikes. Somebody should have checked that bag of tricks Vasil so carefully guarded and quickly picked up from behind the mound as soon as the innings ended.

Bednar pitched on Sunday. Next game is tomorrow (Friday). If Bednar goes tomorrow, he goes on 4 days off/rest. It would be akin to pitching the 1st and 5th game of a MLB playoff series or World Series. Nothing unusual about that. But, yeah, I'd rather face somebody besides Bednar. Of course, if we win tomorrow, we may face Bednar on Saturday instead...

He would pitch in the 3rd game of the finals, which they may not reach. Note 2nd pitcher was bounced before 2 innings and the 3rd pitcher hasn’t pitched yet. You want those guys to start the finals?

Then again, maybe MSU's other starters aren't a big drop off from Bednar...? Bednar looked like Cy Young against us. I don't know how MSU's coach will play it, but if he's thinking beat Texas at all costs and beat them asap, Bednar would be the one they'd want on the mound. So, I bet we see Bednar. If not tomorrow, then Saturday (if we win tomorrow).

Of course, as good as Bednar was, MSU only scored 2 against Madden. So MSU can't feel that good about facing Madden again...

Texas will throw Madden, have to believe we see Bednar tonight but maybe MSU is confident enough they think their number three starter is good enough and they can save Bednar for game one of the championship series Monday or Saturday if necessary. Because they have the two to win one advantage both options are on table.

We might watch for a big strike zone tonight as the umps want to hurry up and get the game done and go home. And watch it get bigger as the evening turns into the morning…

Interesting thought; I hadn't thought of that, but it explains some of the calls tonight I think!

What a nice good morning! I fell asleep just after we went up 3-2 but left 3 runners stranded. I logged in and we won!

It's a great thing going on in Longhorn land!

After they tied the game with that home run I decided the only way we win is if I turn it off and go to bed.
So, you're welcome. ;)

Love beating smug, cocky teams and wiping that grin off their face.
On to the next one.

If I were the MSU coach, I would save Bednar for Saturday to maximize the Texas pucker factor.
If I were the MSU coach, I’d have the backup shortstop pitch today, and the batboy Saturday. Keep Bednar and the rest of the staff fresh for the finals.

Alas, I’m not their coach.

Just looking at the #s of some of our pitchers who have not yet thrown in the CWS:

(of course, as some have pointed out, Cole Quintinilla didn't throw many pitches, so we could see him again tonight, or tomorrow; possibly the same with Nixon)

If Bednar sits tonight and we win, I think they'd be nuts not to throw Bednar against us on Saturday as it's do-or-die at that point for MSU. How would they like to lose the next two games against us (and not even make the finals) with Bednar on the bench. But alas, I'm not their coach either.

I think Hansen is the only pitcher unavailable tonight. While Witt threw ~60 pitches, that was 3+ days ago. I don't see him as the first one out of the pen, but I think he's good for an inning or 2 if necessary.
