Craig James: The Most Hated Man In West Texas

what is the evidence James took bribes? He always claimed he went to SMU because his girlfriend went there the year before he got out of high school and he wanted to be there with her. I've never seen any evidence he was one of the ones taking bribes.

I read Chris Mortenson's book about the SMU scandals and loved the stories about Dickerson and the others taking bribes but don't recall that James did. Nor did a lot of the other players there.

So is there evidence he did?

I agree with the comments to the effect that he is getting very bad advice. The Leach thing would kill him if nothing else.

And his public pronouncements thus far are insanely imprudent. He is not a student of the political game.
 
This country elected Bill Clinton as POTUS twice, though he never got a majority of the voters. That said, we have very selective application of moral standards. There was plenty of evidence in Arkansas that he was a slime ball.
 
A top story running this hour on 104.9 FM, Austin (ESPN affiliate), Fri, 10-Feb,... is that parts of the story was made up by Adam James and run with by poppa. Based on court testimony (which court, when? I tuned in late on this on the way back from the vet, but there the meat of it). What Leach was accused of never happened as reported. Further, why did Tech not investigate vigorously? It led to Leach being fired.

Again, this 'fact' that the event never happened in all the details as Leach was accused, is the story from Geoff and Chad on Austin's "Drive" on 104.9 FM, today.
 
I was listening to that same radio show, and the caller, (who was that guy?) knew about the situation in Lubbock. He said after reading the sworn depositions, that the accusations were false, invented by the younger James, and spread in the media by Craig James.
He also reported that the investigator for Kent Hance at Texas Tech found out one week prior to the pirate's firing that these charges were bogus and the board fired Leach anyhow.
Ketchum admitted he jumped to conclusions about Leach based on the story by Adam James, and most other media did as well.
I did too, because it appeared to be true, and reported by legitimate media sources. If the charges were true, Leach was fairly ousted, or at least it was a reasonable excuse to fire him if the powers that be wanted an excuse to fire him.
Now the media, and I, have to apologize to Leach, and it appears he may win his lawsuit against Tech.
I doubt he will win any amount other than the remainder due from his contract, but Leach's purpose in the suit is to clear his good name and reputation. If what I heard yesterday is indeed factual, Leach will succeed in that mission.
And by corollary, Craig James is a total douchebag, who is lower than a snake's belly.

I think not. I think he's done.
 
He can't win **** in TX politics, if he wins in Leach's defamation suit, which I doubt, he still loses in the court of public opinion, and hopefully never gets his job back at ESPN.
So there is a little justice in this world and that makes me smile.
Come to think of it, I wonder if his decision to leave ESPN and pursue the ill advised senate seat wasn't entirely in his hands. It just seems like too incredibly poor of a choice for even a stupid vain ******** like James. I wonder if ESPN wasn't about to cut their ties to him anyway.
 
I am a conservative and I honestly hope the R party is smart enough no to run this man for US Senate... my gawd we can do better than this... hell the dog catcher from Monahans for office would be better than Craig James.
 
Were Craig James to lose not only his chance at winning in politics but his job too, oh boy! And, he may even get his Texas citizenship revoked and leave our great State. One can hope.

I hope the pirate lands somewhere huge after this.
 
It's only a small thing, but I liked him best out of the ESPN and ABC group. It seemed like everyone including Doug Flutie was advocating Virginia Tech to jump us to the 2 spot in 2005 and the hype machine was coming on strong. Luckily Miami went into their place and mudholed them because after that game it was smooth sailing. It might have ended up USC winning back to back championships winning the second one over VTech in Jan 2006.

James was very avid in defending our record vs our schedule and even went on record to say we were the best team that year before we played USC. I have always appreciated him for coming to our defense when the networks were advocating a different direction.
 
I'm a Democrat and I don't want this piece of scum anywhere near my party. He's a sorry excuse for a human being.
 
How is that any different from the problem of being a Republican? Last I checked there are only two parties that rule this land, and neither has the market cornered at ******* things up.
 
I've got $5 that says Craig James surfaces after the dust clears...on Fox News. It's a match made in heaven, or hell, or West Texas, or somewheres.
 
They're both ho's. Obama even manages to sell us out to Wall Street and the banks and big business at the same time.
I wouldn't sully myself voting for either of them.
