Craig James: The Most Hated Man In West Texas

"Public Policy Polling just came out of the field with news that only 2 percent of Texas Republicans will vote for him for U.S. Senate. It's early yet, but if Republican political consultant Brian Mayes is correct, 2 percent is about where we should expect him to end up. In the interests of disclosure, I'm working for one of the Democrats in the race, and we aren't concerned with James in the slightest."
I'm surprised it's that high," said Mayes. "If you ask the average Republican voter... he's remembered for the scandal at SMU and using his position at ESPN to get a wildly popular coach fired. He is by far one of the most hated men in West Texas."

That's not hyperbole. Last year Stefan Hankin of Lincoln Park Strategies threw Craig James into a statewide poll and found that James was less popular in West Texas than Barack Obama.

I have been involved with taking bribes to play football, vote for me for Senator? Voters are stupid but are they really that stupid?

I think the SMU thing could be overlooked. In fact, I found James to be a likable guy in broadcasts, particularly when we made our MNC run. I recall he was thinking about a Senate bid prior to the Leach stuff, thinking he had a shot. But in the postmortem of this Leach deal - I don't know who advises the guy, but they should have advised: "You need to do your best to stay completely out of the light as much as possible until this dies down, if it ever does, and it may not. So quash any notion of running for political office, b/c you are smoking crack if you think not only you have any shot at collecting more than 5% of votes, but also, that you will somehow not become more of a nationwide laughingstock than you are now. Quite frankly, you have as much chance to win as a man with the last name Sandusky in Pennsylvania."

It's already clear he is an idiot. It is also clear now that his advisors are idiots.

An electorate capable of elevating Newt Gingrich to his current level is more than capable of reversing itself and pushing Craig James to the forefront.

I did find in interesting in his disclosures that he made only a bit over $100,000 last year working for ESPN. I would have thought it much more than that.

I admit he seemed OK to me before the Leach thing. It seemed plausible that he was an OK guy in spite of the SMU deal, anyway.

The more I learn about him, the more its evident that he is an ethical and moral midget, though, and someone not fit to broadcast a football game, much less lead the country.

I am sorry what has Newt Gingrich done illegally? What bribes has he taken?

Please expand on your all knowing information regarding Newt Gingrich, as I imagine what you are talking about was all cleared and charges dismissed a settlement was made on whether a class was tax deductable or not, Newt chose to pay it for it to go away.

But please enlighten me about what Newt did that was illegal or constitutes a bribe?

Follow the thread.

This isn't abt one of the most hated men in America.

Piss on Newt.

This is abt the most hated man in West Texas.

I am following the thread until some jack wagon liberal starts spouting off untruths. If you want to piss on another human being so be it, shows your class, I would like to know how Newt Gingrich compares to Craig James? Call intellectual curiousity.....

My comment only went to not dismissing James, given how quickly the electorate can change its mind, and I cited an example that involved Newt. There was no attempt to compare the two whatsoever.

Perry trailed Hutchinson for quite some time, yet pulled off a rather large win. And Dewey won, too, remember?

I'll take a stab at it. Craig James and Newt Gingrich are both morally / ethically impaired? The fact that they are both in politics proves it. If you don't think Newt has ever taken a "bribe" then you just don't understand politics in this country right now.

Still, sad day for the GOP and the country when this is the best they can do. Looks like four more years of Obama. But you love ye some NEWT do ya?

Y Sanchez Not really no, that wasn't fair to all politicians. So you can calm down.
I do believe its fair to Newt and probably to James (we'll never know since he's unelectable) though.
And there is a great deal of corruption in Washington. I don't suppose you'll want to start your debate from the premise that its easy to find an non-corrupt politician on the Hill?

The mistake James made was in running as a Republican. Granted, whoever wins the R primary will win the race, as the Texas Democrat party is a total and complete joke – the Greens, National Socialists, and Flat Earth Party have as many statewide officeholders as the Democratic party.

But the Republican primary actually has viable candidates that have won statewide office; a tough field for James to compete against.

He should have run as a Democrat. Who would he be going up against? The president of the Houston trial lawyers/ambulance chasers? The other no name chumps recruited so at least the party has a candidate to be slaughtered in the fall? James at least would have had name recognition, and might have been able to force a run off.

As it is, he’s a one legged man running in a real race. He should have gone down to the paraplegic class that is the Texas Democrat party.

Is Craig James related to Matt Davis? I'm from west Texas and I hate both of them.
