I think LR sees the potential of a few things.
1. USC has the wheelbase to be THE Big Dog in LA. They have been before. They have the celebrity attachments.
2. NIL makes USC one of THE top spots to be able to offer college players top NIL agreements.
3. USC is in a conference that will have an easier road into the playoff.
He's also not an idiot and is somewhat self aware and he saw this brewing in Norman/Big12.
1. The SEC is gonna be tough.
2. He was expected to compete for a NC and at least be in the playoff this year and he made Tulane look like an SEC team, he had to fight against Nebraska, WVU, KSU, UT and KU. Baylor outclassed him and he lost to OSU.
3. Things were not trending well for his program.
4. Caleb Williams was not looking like the star that UT made him out to be. Teams that dropped 8 made him look average.
5. Much like gas prices, while his numbers (oil price) were going the wrong way, his potential income had not taken a hit yet.
I expect he will compete for and win the Pac 12 2023 and afterwards. USC doesn't have the defense or OL to compete at the Bama/UGA level right now. Utah will wear him out. He will make a few playoffs and will perform much like his OU teams performed. He never focuses on recruiting the dogs on the DL and he does not have disciplined teams. Grinch was also no magician.
