Cotton Bowl Update

Oh, I don't think the neighborhood is that bad, although it is full of blue collar workers renting small frame homes. I don't see abrs on many windows, and there are major businesses withing short walking distance- a Barnes and Noble, a Chilis, a YMCA. Of course, right across Collins from the stadium is a Pier One, a Jason's Deli, and a Half Price Books.

I'd walk the area at night, and not feel afraid.

Those businesses are on Collins right at I-30. I'm talking about a mile or so down between Randoll Mill and Division (where the stadium is). It gets sketchy there in a hurry. I admittedly didn't spend too much time there, but I didn't sure want to.

Longhorn Lawyer, where do you live? Judging by your standards, it must be Dallas, Preston Hollow, or Lakewood; maybe one of the interesting parts of Garland?

That's a nice area. That said, what a surprise- you are more excited about the stadium that is three miles from your house than you are about the one that will take almost an hour to get to.

So am I.

at the risk of highjacking the thread back to its original purpose...here are some pics

thanks for the pics. Looks great. It will look like a different place with the new uppper decks and no blue and white...

Hook'em

I grew up in Lakewood too. An elementary school friend's dad was the State Fair GM. Actually, first he was GM for Six Flags. We always got free tix to Six Flags and I still recall going to a preschool class at the Natural Sciences museum. I love E Dallas and Arlington. I've been going to Arlington/Six Flags/ Arlington Stadium/ Seaworld- yes they had a Seaworld, for a long time. Guess what? Arlington has degraded into looking a LOT like Fair Park. I'd much prefer the Art Deco of Fair Park, much of which was built for the TX Centennial, 1936, than the House That Cletus Built, circa 2009.

Those actually look good, not at all like the bleachers on stilts that UH threw up a few years ago. I suspect the bathroom situation may be better there than the old part of the stadium (note- the bathroom situation at the Cotton Bowl was better years ago, before rules required more women's bathrooms).

No obstructed view seats either. If this makes it easier for me to get into the game, I'm for it.

I've posted a lot before, as an Arlington resident, for the new stadium. However, wrt the RRS, my priorities are, in order:

1. Neutral site location in DFW
2. Affordability of tickets
3. Ability to not miss too much of the game when visiting concessions or restroom

If this renovation meets 1 - 3, it's a good thing. I, personally, would trade the State Fair even up to have the venue down the street from my house, but I understand why others wouldn't.
