I don't think Gilbert will be redshirting. I think it would be detrimental to our 2010 team if we had a QB taking over who didn't have a single snap during an actual game.
If he is as good as advertised it's hard to see him being here more than 3 years anyway you cut it.
Stoopsie just crapped a brick. Blow U went full press on this guy, but he was ours all along. Hook'em and welcome Connor. We had to have a bigtime QB in this class and now we have him. Way to go Mack!
Outstanding news! Really excited about the way this class is developing. Re: our strategy on QB's, I would much have preferred to have Connor as the only QB in this class. Having said that, MB didn't ask me when he extended the offer to Chase--and that's a good thing!
I love CW... as well as this class, the team, and MB. I'm gonna stop there lest I start looking like Tom Cruise on Oprah's show.
Awesome, if for no other reason than we keep him out of blOw U hands. I guess this means however that Case isn't as good as suspected. Also, I agree with what was said about GG not redshirting. Although, the more I think about it, if GG doesn't shirt then what will happen to Chiles and Sherrod? There's just too many QB's on next years roster.
from what I understand, Mack sold to Conner that GG would not be redshirting, and if Conner does, that puts 2 years separation between them. I am really surprised at this commitment. But when it was explained to me it made sense. This also means that Chiles can't keep threatening to transfer. Who cares now. GG and Conner back to back is like stealing. Mack really has something going. I think this might be a #1 class in waiting.
Never a bad thing to have depth at the QB position.
Next year Gilbert could likely play some as a true frosh. McCoy comes in 2010 and likely redshirts, while Wood could play some as a true frosh in 2010.
So in 2010 you have:
Gilbert (True Soph)
Wood (True Frosh)
McCoy (Redshirting)
2011 you have:
Gilbert (Junior)
Wood (Soph)
McCoy (RS Frosh)
If Chiles develops more then 2010 could see both Wood and McCoy redshirt giving a 2 year gap between them and Gilbert.
Yes, I think this means that there is a good chance that Gilbert doesn't redshirt this year.
He plays a little bit this fall.
Connor comes in next fall (2010) and redshirts.
That gives Connor a two year separation between himself and Gilbert. Two years of starting is just about all one can realistically hope for in this day and age.
Of course, were Gilbert to turn pro early, that might be another year for Connor.
In the end, though, Connor has a chance to be a QB and get a degree at the University of by God Texas. And that's pretty much a ticket that will pave the way through doorways all around this state for the rest of his life.
I really wonder if kids think about stuff like that when they consider Oklahoma.
