Although, unless ALL we get out of Trump is the Tweet monster (and that won't happen), I'm not real sure of Mayor Pete's being the nominee, let alone POTUS. The Clinton machine isn't dead yet (not necessarily her, but an institutional white dude democrat)

The institutional white dude democrat would be OK with Mayor Pete, Joe Biden, or Amy Klobuchar. He wouldn't be OK with Crazy Bernie or Elizabeth Warren.

That turned out not to be the case. The more voices outside of the left I listened to, the more I realized that these were not bad people. They were not racists, nazis, or white supremacists. We had differences of opinions on social and economic issues, but a difference of opinion does not make your opponent inherently evil. And they could justify their opinions using arguments, rather than the shouting and ranting I had seen coming from my side of the aisle.

A Centrist? Admittedly, I haven't delved into Mayor Pete's responses on every issue in great depth ... he's running for democrat POTUS nominee. If one supports the DNC platform, they're my political opponent. That opponent can be cordial, perhaps ... polished ... but when promoting the ideal the Fed Govt has the role/duty/right to direct beyond treasury of the money, national defense, foreign policy, and border security ...

Sadly for you and yours, SOTU Trump is a mirage. All he is s/p impeachment is Tweet monster Trump and a new version of Trump that is obviously going to punish those against him with extreme prejudice, pardon those criminals who've been convicted who are on his team; and publicly prod and pester all public parties like prosecutors, judges, etc. Good luck wit h that version.

And yet most likely the public isn't going to care about that, because your party pushes lunacy. It's a shame. All they had to do is not be crazy. Instead, it's either Trump or letting the monkeys and elephants out of their cages.
 
Bringing democrat corruption to the light of day is not intervening. I'm glad Trump is doing it. On top of that Trump trolling them makes them show their true selves to the public which is paying dividends.

You're not wrong. If Klobechar comes out it could be interesting. Pete/Warren/Sanders are probably losers.

Pete will not get the minority vote. There's some significant homophobic stuff there historically. And, he's not got a positive history with minorities to build on. He's got a negative history to dig out of.

Pete has no chance. He isn’t a popular mayor of a small town - largely due to racial issues. So he won’t motivate the minority vote and he will have a hard time overcoming having a husband. Right or wrong, them the facts.

I'm just not so sure. He reminds me a little of Beta. Like him, after the nomination is secured, he'll get universally positive media coverage. They will absolutely gush over him, and there will be no scrutiny of him or anything he says at all. Whatever racial controversies he had as mayor will be swept under the rug.

Do I think he'll get Obama-level black support? No. Black voters will never back a gay white dude like they'll back a black guy. However, I could see Pete rallying suburban women and younger voters much like Beta did, and like Beta, he's very slick and very good at mouthing platitudes in an inspirational but meaningless way that gets dumb suburban women and gullible young voters very excited even if he's gay.

Being gay will be an advantage with middle to upper class whites and suburbanites. No one cares anymore other than to celebrate it.

The media will do their best. With any typical GOP candidate, it would be very effective. Trump, with his Twitter, will prevent it from happening. How can you bash Trump for his Twitter lies without publishing the tweets? The media hate Trump so much they won't be able to control themselves.

Most voters don't really look at issues. They say they do, but they don't. They find the candidate they think relates to them and makes them feel good, and then they cherry-pick issues to reinforce a decision they've already made.
 
Sorry guys. I missed the memo! Turns out Mr Biden is a helluva good guy. Good oral hygenie, warm, appropriately affectionate and the gaffes are just an act to seem like a regular guy.

He does have great oral hygiene. I remembered that about him from the 2012 debate. His teeth are super white.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of that. Nothing wrong with getting your teeth cleaned and whitened to a point, but it is possible to go to far. Teeth are supposed to be white but not ultrabright white. When people go too far with it, teeth look fake or painted.
