Collins No Longer Just Interim Starter

It makes sense. Fisher needs to get this team moving forward and focused on the games at hand instead of wondering whether VY will be back or not. They're 2-0, a game up on the Colts.

I'd like to see Vince maybe get some action against KC if he's ready and slowly work back in.

Once Collins starts to suck every titans fan will come back to reality.

Titans hiring Simms is a way to keep the Texas fans still on board....

Maybe the titans should make a playbook for VY. Instead of putting VY in Kerry's system. ******* morons.

Getting Chris on board had nothing to do with Texas fans. It has to do with an insurance policy if Collins takes a hit like Vince did in week 1.

The bottom line is that Collins did what Fisher wanted. He managed the game and did not turn the ball over. His numbers were not great, and he made no big play-for either team. Fisher wants to win with defense and the running game. We will see what happens to those running lanes when teams figure out that not having the threat of Vince back there means they can load up on the run.

Collins is not a special quarterback, but neither is Vince when he is playing with no confidence. Vince has 3 more weeks to get his knee right. Then he needs to work back into the system and learn to balance his life and football.

I know they NEEDED a qb. But dont you think its odd they took another Texas QB?

For instance im a Vince fan. Im going to watch what ever team he plays on until he retires. Now that he is having a hard time and trade talks and retirement is in the air, they want to keep all their loyal Texas veiwers. One way to do that is to hire the QB qho never really got a fair chance to show what he can do. Even though he isnt playing, there is always that chance that he can.

So yes I do believe that was part of the decision. The other part is the fact that they were scrambling to find a QB.. and they honestly could have found a better one. But they went with Simms. Prooving that they want to keep SOME texas fans on board.

****.. they were showing Titans games over TEXANS last year IN TEXAS!

Im pretty sure they enjoyed that.

Someone needs to tell Jeff Fisher that Earl Campbell retired, got old, and will never return to play for the Oilers. Honestly, Fisher runs his team like he's holding out hope for that.

I'm glad VY is on the sideline, and I hope he is traded before his contract expires. He has too much talent to waste in an afterthought offense staffed with scout team receivers.

If I were Fisher, I'd stick with Collins until he shat the bed a couple of games in a row. Then I would play whomever is practicing better: Simms or Young.

Tennessee isn't Vince's team right now. Maybe it will be again, but then again, maybe it won't be. Fisher can't sit around worrying about that.

It's nothing personal, it's just business.

After watching Fisherball for a couple of seasons, I wonder why he was drafted by the Titans to begin with. He wants to play tough defense, hand the ball to a running back, and pass when he has to. That may work out great, but Vince needs to be in a 'wide open' offense to be effective.

updog - Sorry dude, but the Titans don't care enough about a Texas fanbase to sign a QB because of that, and I would be shocked and think the GM and Fisher should lose their jobs if that played into their decision at all.

They're in the business to win games, and they think Simms will help them do that. Simms is one of the higher-profile free agent QBs out there, which is why he was mentioned after Brady went down and signed quickly by another team when their starter was going to be out awhile.

You honestly just suggested that the Titans signed another Texas QB due in part because he wasn't given a fair shot at UT FIVE YEARS AGO. You really think the Tennessee Titans give a **** how Simms was treated in college?

Makes sense. Vince hasn't been spectacular since year 1. He's been pretty bad at that. He needs to watch Collins for a while, or even Simms.

Simms was brought in because he's lead TB to the playoffs before, not because he's a Texas alum. Don't be dumb.

Ill post all day.

And it doesnt matter what I think. I just think its odd that they signed Simms who virtually has done nothing in the NFL when there are better people out there.

Simms got his chance in college. He proved it enough to get drafted.. He hasnt done much in the NFL. I know he was injured.. I just find it ironic that Ten. keeps drafting Texas players...

Tenn. has one of the biggest markets/fanbases now. Id have to say alot of it is Texas/Vince fans. Maybe not more than true Titans.. But there is a large portion. Anytime VY does something or has a good/bad game its discussed on HornFans. This isnt TitansFans.com

And have a good one kids.

I think the only hope for VY is to get traded to a DOG team who has to hire a new coach and completely start from scratch. Any NFL team already with a modicum of success won't scrap their offensive system in place. You don't "build" a team around a player in the NFL, period, unless you have nothing left to lose. And in that scenario, you're going to have 3-4 years of Quarterback Taco Sauce before the system gets up and going (i.e. injury prone).

Vince has very smartly realized that COLLEGE AIN'T THE PROS and knew it from day 1. While he has the ability to scramble and make yardage a la the old NFL scramblers of Yore, you cannot after a given point remain HEALTHY if all you do is run. EVERY good scrambling back with the exception of Vick has pulled back and learned to run an NFL offense from the pocket - McNabb, McNair, Culpeper, etc. (and Vick was out for 2/3 of one year because he got clobbered on a scramble). VY has been hurt a lot because you cannot continually outrun lightning-fast NFL LB's and CB's without paying for it. Period.

VY knew this and tried to adjust his game, with some success. Maybe he didn't run as much as he should have, but this is probably because he knows how much more dangerous it is to do so in the NFL. Anyone who thought that Vince would just waltz into the pros and run past all these defenses was on crack. Sorry, ain't happening. Not without frequent injury.

That said, I believe he can learn to adjust like McNabb has.. .scramble when needed but be primarily a passer and manager. The likelihood of an NFL offense building some sort of hokey, college-wingding offensive set around his running is zilch. A new team will help him.

I'd love to see him come to the Texans. Kubiak would be excellent for his development and he'd be comfortable and confident in being home. I think he'd re-emerge as a leader and get to the next level of being a top NFL quarterback. I think he's got the head (which is every bit as important as the athleticism in the NFL) to do so.

Meantime, maybe this absence will help to relax and refocus him in Tennessee. But I think it's time for him to ask for a trade and start over, even at a huge salary cut. Sometimes you just have to.

Mike Keith, Titan's play by play guy, said on the radio this morning that Fisher is giving Vince the opportunity to shake the Etch-A-Sketch and start over.

Interesting imagery.

How can you say there isnt anyone out there better?

What has he done that makes you say "Wow.. Chris freakin Simms!!"

Id atelast take someone with more experiance.

But thank you for all flaming me... I do think that they took Simms to keep Texas fans onboard. Cry me a river if you want. Flame me all day on a message board. I think its true..

Did that get your panties in a wad?

Yeah, that's a reach, and I seriously doubt the Titans are that worried about us anyway.

Chris is there to help the team on the field and possibly in the locker room by way of Vince.

The Titan's philosophy on offense appears not to be designed for the passing game or the QB to be a difference maker. They will never acquire a deep receiver like TO, or even Roy Williams. Any QB who can throw 10 for 15 completions for 150 yards with 1 TD a game and not screw up is perfect for Fisher. Unless Vince is satisfied with this, he will not be considered a team player.

I think Vince realizes that this "glass ceiling" will never allow him even a fraction of the stardom he enjoyed at UT, and that is what depresses him the most. In retrospect, his ability to pull out wins with his running during his rookie year actually hindered his progress, since he probably deluded himself into believing that his running would always be able to carry an NFL team, which it can't.
