I opine Pete Kwiatkowski might be the right man for Hawaii. They don’t seem to care much about defense at Hawaii, perfect fit.
Patterson could take over the defense now.
I almost can see a repeat of the Diaz debacle where PK is removed during the season and Patterson steps in. I saw nothing during the season that would earn PK a second year.

Its a little doubtful, but possible. If it happens we will give you credit.

Nebraska is a coaches' graveyard. No more California or Texas recruiting. The school administration killed the program by moving to the BigTen. They will forever be an afterthought. Best fans in NCAA, and they deserve better.

Wisconsin has been good on and off, but will NEVER command the attention of Michigan & Ohio State. Some schools allow old coaches to hang around and have a say far too long. I think Barry Alvarez has done far more harm than good.

State Penn should have gained a recruiting edge by moving to the BigTen, but it doesn't seem so. Once Paterno and his "legacy" had to play real opponents instead of a schedule that included 80%+ teams with losing records, they have faded into the woodwork. They, too, are becoming an afterthought, but certainly not in the same thought process as Michigan & Ohio State.

I think Fickell, and certainly Candle, would take a head coach offer from any of Wisconsin, Penn State, or Nebraska.
 
Candle? Maybe because what isn't a step up from Toledo?

Fickle has already turned down better waiting for the Bears to hire Day, which didn't happen.
 
I can’t stand Penn State, but they’re a big time program. Wisconsin is a notch down, but with the right coach they could dominate the West Division and be in the Big 10 title game most years. Nebraska—a fallen giant, but still a giant.

Even Iowa might be worth consideration.

Brian Smith (former Wash St OC) - ?

Timmy Chang (Colo State WRs) - a legend at QB for the Bows and in high school

Ed Lamb (BYU assoc. head coach/ST coord) - could be the top pick

Robert Anae (Syracuse OC) - ?

June Jones (Hawaii HC a long time ago...) - he WAS really good, a long time ago

Brian Norwood (UCLA asst HC, passing game coord) - another front runner

Victor Santa Cruz (Hawaii DC) - nope

Johnny Nansen (Ariz DC) - ?

It’s Timmy Chang — new head coach at Hawaii

There’s no place in the country that favors local home town guys more than Hawaii. That being said, he certainly knows the passing game and he will generate interest from all over the Islands. Look for more scoreboard lighting shootouts and entertaining games. Also, local guy Chang may be better at locking down the local talent and cherry picking some good California QBs and CBs.

He’s a 180 degrees opposite of Graham.

All in all, a good pick.

That's idiotic, and I know you're a smarter fan than that.
Patterson doesn't WANT to run the defense. What part of the idea that Patterson is the one in charge do you not understand? He doesn't need to help UT, we need him. He has "**** you" retirement money. So Kwiatkowski isn't going anywhere during the '22 season, and Patterson isn't doing any more than what he wants to do, which is, in a nutshell, consulting.

I agree completely with your assessment but having him meet recruits and "size them up" pleases me immensely. This guy made a great career off of 2* & 3* recruits before sending them to the NFL. Having him meet and talk to these kids, and then his opinion on who is a player, who is overrated, who is possibly a headcase, is something we haven't had around in a while.

Absolutely! A consulting job can impact many crucial areas...
 
I think he'll be as effective in developing as in recruiting. As Sabre alluded to, he took a bunch of 2 and 3 stars and, more often than not, beat teams full of 4 and 5 stars. That's player development, and should be interesting to potential recruits.

The only "little brother" jobs worth a damn are FSU, Sons of Klem, & aTm. Some may want to include Auburn, but their BMDs are the worst in the country - see also Tuberville/Patrino; the guy selling out his daughter to get rid of Bowden; Chizik; Malzahn. Bum Bright could have taken craziness lessons from those people.

I don't think patterson is going to help much in player development. I am going to wait and see if Patterson makes any difference. I think his influence will be minimal if he doesn't actually coach.

If he has even 2/3 the impact Dick Tomey had for Mack Brown we will all be very pleased.

EDIT: Just to note that Patterson said in a recent interview that he hopes to do for Sark what Tomey did for Mack. Poms, if you are unaware of the non-coaching role Tomey served for Mack, you should familiarize yourself. His influence was enormous.
