Coaches Poll: Texas #7

I was surprised that Georgia stayed as high as #3 and actually received any first place votes. They barely beat a mediocre S Carolina team. Oh wait, its the SEC.
 
I look forward to seeing if the gap of points narrows between USC and Oklahoma (if they both stay undefeated) as the season plays out. USC plays nobody. So that gap should narrow. But will it?

Notre Dame got some votes and will be back in the top 25 next week and the top ten the next one. It takes time to overcome the vicious anti catholic bias in the sporting press you know.

Horns pretty much off the media radar... just a "horn" here and there in the program clips on all the networks.

Kirk Bohls has barely given the Longhorns any mention to be anywhere in the mix; conference, or national.

Strange... according to both polls, only 6 teams in Division 1A ahead of the Horns.

By the time the gun sounds on the Missouri game, we'll see if there might be USC-Texas rematch talk. I sure as hell hope so.
 
Seriously? You think we will be undefeated going into Missouri. I hope your right but we could very easily drop both games to Colorado on the road and to the sooners in dallas. I don't like them but they look miles ahead of where we are right now.
 
I fail to see how any other team should be considered any better than Texas.

There are no favorites in my book. No where in the country. Texas is EVEN with every team in the top group. Period. We stay on the field with any and all of them. That's not saying they don't do the same.

I'm just saying there is absolutely no reason to put anyone above the Texas Longhorns. None. Therefore we can be as optimistic as anyone, and everyone can be just as concerned as we are about crucial games.

It's an even year. Whoever can make it happen. And this team has an even chance to go undefeated all the way to January in a BCS game. Take you pick which one it will be.
 
Just ask the Okies about Colorado last year. Colorado is a dangerous team especially on their home turf. Do we even need to think that far ahead considering some of our losses the last 2 years? This is a much tougher schedule than last year and it is a good thing we drop mighty K State from our schedule as that is always a sure loss.
 
Really? REALLY? The Horns are on par with OU and USC? Gimme a break. As I posted on a thread I started- Mack will have to coach the team 'up' in order to beat OU and Mizzou. It's possible. We'll see.

If we somehow managed to play USC in the BCS title game, it would make OU's championship game with them look close. We are nowhere near them right now.
 
ou has not played any teams that are better than who Texas has played. TCU will give them a game in Norman. That will be their toyghest test before Texas.

We have to play former rival arkie and CU on the road. Texas will only grow and improve up the Texas-ou game. ou not so much.
 
I am not surprized at all. We played really well in our off week.

Also, Colorado? What are you smoking? CU has no chance, I don't care if the game is in alaska.
 
I drink the burnt orange kool-aid everyday, 3x a day, but SC is on another planet right now. If we played them next week it wouldn't be pretty.
 
Colorado trailed Eastern Washington (a I-AA school) for most of that game. I do think they have the potential to cause problems in our secondary if we don't manage to shore things up. I'm not real sure how well they can stop our O, though.

Anyway, Colorado smells like a trap game before OU to me. We should stand a good chance of winning if we take them seriously, but they could jump up and bite us if we don't.
 
The Horns will beat Colorado and beat them badly in Boulder.

I think USC is number one and number one by a wide margin at this point. If OU and USC played ten times at this time I think USC wins about ten of them.

If OU's D stays healthy and gets better I think OU can give them a game. There is too much football to be played to speculate much at this point.

But right now nobody has shown the kind of Offense it would most likely take to beat USC.
 
Wow, Sooner, give yourself some credit. If USC and OU played at a neutral site, as long as it wasn't a BCS Bowl I'd say USC wins 5-6 times. Y'all are for real this year. Games are won and lost in the trenches, and OU's O and D-Lines are some of the nation's best. Bradford has Tom Brady time to hit his talented WR's, RB's, and TE's all day. OU has a very good squad this year. That being said, I still believe we have a very legitimate shot at knocking OU off in Dallas, and there's a ton of football to be played, so we shall see how it goes.
 
I'm as big a Longhorn homer as anyone, but I've got to say that if we finish in the Top Ten this year I will consider that a monumental feat. We're Top 15 for sure and maybe Top 10.

We have a running game that at the moment is inconsistent (but probably will come on strong if the past is any indication). We have a young secondary that is game, but very inexperienced. Anyone with a strong passing game (OU, Missou, USC) is going to put a bunch of points on the scoreboard. We're going to have to outscore them. I'm not sure this is the year, but I will hope for the best.
 
With the exception of the Bomarr'd year, OU starts every season like they could win the NFC East. Something happens mid-October and they become just another good team. That is the pattern with Stoops. I don't see why this year would be any different.

They normally peak in the Cotton Bowl. Our problem is we seldom peak at the Cotton Bowl.
 
If either team played SC today, yea, ***-kickin'

But neither we nor the toothless would have to play them until January. This is like predicting Hurricane paths.....not so easy.

Both of our teams in January will be matured and completely different from today, SC will be the beneficiary of a soft schedule and massive media slobbering all season long. I say come January they would be ripe for defeat.

I don't see stoopsie allowing another let down against the prune-pickers and we know how Mack handles them.
 
Colorado and Arkansas both had to come from behind to beat 1AA teams at home - performances that make our close win against Arkansas State last year look impressive. There's really no way the RRS shouldn't be a battle of undefeateds this year. Depending on who loses in the next few weeks, might even be a battle of top 5s.
