Coach Stephen Ambrose Sarkisian.......Staff

Every coach we have had brings in “the best S&C guy” in the country. And when each of them has been fired, each of their S&C guys was considered a looser.

Hopefully this time will be different.
Yes. Precisely. That is exactly what happens, every time. In the off season, there will be some video of our guys lifting weights or turning over monster truck tires or something like that, people get all fired up, and many comment are posted about how awesome these new exercises are and "we finally have a real S&C program", etc. Then, after that S&C coach leaves, posters talk about how goofy and misguided the old S&C coach's methods were and how the incoming S&C guy will get it all fixed. I'll wish the best and keep an open mind to Sark's guy, but I'll otherwise reserve my opinions.

Not that I'm any sort of purported S&C guru anyways--you can find those guys at any Gold's Gym or LA fitness admiring their "definition" in the wall-sized mirrors.

I will say this:
Best we ever had--Dana LeDuc

As long there is no mention of "The Pit".

Remember Bennie Wylie, who had been with Dallas Cowboys and winner of NBC Strong. Didn't help Charlie win games though.
Bennie was hired by OU in 2018.

Several sites reporting there was a players only meeting today led by guys like QB Casey Thompson, RB Roschon Johnson and LB Juwan Mitchell.

Overall the morale was good and there wasn't nearly the amount of resistance to change as there was when Strong was fired.

The team is excited about the possibilities of being coached by Sarkisian and his new staff, and they're focused on S&C for when the spring semester starts

It was 15 years ago tonight that Sark was on the sideline watching Vince trot into the corner of the Rose Bowl end zone.:hookem:

IMHO TH let the culture of Texas Football rot under his leadership. Sounds like Sark has turned his life around and IF that is true, he will be a tough leader which this team really really needs! If the culture is good, Texas can win in 2021 & 2022. I liked Ash, if I was Sark I would consider him strongly. But I’m not Sark. So I trust him to build the staff.

Football Scoop yesterday
At Texas, big names, Texas ties dot Sark's potential staff additions

" ... Chief amongst them is former Missouri head coach and current Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom, whom sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Monday is in the mix to run the defense for Sarkisian.

Odom’s reputation as a defensive mastermind is among the nation’s best, and he turned in strong work first as Missouri’s defensive coordinator and then the Tigers’ head coach. At his alma mater, Odom serviced as architect of multiple top-15 national defenses, including Missouri’s only top-10 defense since the late-1970s. Additionally, this season at Arkansas Odom helped the Hogs’ stop-unit shave nearly three points per game off its scoring average, improving it 25 spots in the national rankings. The Hogs leaped from 116th to 65th in yards per play, shaving nearly a yard per snap off their average.

Odom also has recruited in Texas during stops at Arkansas, Memphis and Missouri.

Tosh Lupoi’s been in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns in recent years, but Lupoi has deep ties to Sarkisian. Lupoi was on Sarkisian’s Washington staff as defensive line coach in Sarkisian’s final two years atop the Huskies program.

Houston co-defensive coordinator Doug Belk, who worked at Alabama with both Lupoi and Sarkisian, also is said to be in the mix to potentially join Sarkisian’s defensive staff, per sources with direct knowledge.

Sources also tell FootballScoop that Sark has engaged Blake Gideon in discussions to join the staff. Gideon recently completed his first season as the special teams coordinator at Ole Miss, and was selected by his peers as the 2019 FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year in 2019 for his work at Houston. He coached the Cougars to a national-best six blocked kicks while also coaching the club’s nickel backs.

Gideon has no direct ties to Sarkisian, but is a Texas Ex who started at safety for the Longhorns from 2008-11. He is the son of longtime Texas high school coach Steve Gideon.

Other candidates could emerge through the process...."

Another name in the DC mix is Marcus Freeman (Cincinnati DC)
He is already talking to LSU, ND and maybe Auburn
"This all looks to be happening fast."

Rumor that the Wikipedia entry for Flood already at Texas was done by the son of Jimmy Sexton (yes, that Jimmy Sexton). Jimmy is Flood's agent and the son is a big Texas fan, been around various boards for years.

Apparently the original potential list of assistants put out by IT a couple days ago was not them just spitballing names with some connection to Sark. They were from a source with connections. The names that are still in play --
- AJ Milwee - QBs - current offensive analyst for Alabama
- Kyle Flood - OL, possible OC or co-OC - current OL coach for Alabama
- Jeff Banks - TE/ST coach - current OL/ST coach for Alabama
- Keary Colbert - WR coach - current WR coach for Southern Cal
- Bo Davis - DL coach - current DL coach for Detroit Lions

This means if this is true then Mike Stoops really was under consideration. I admit I laughed when I first saw that. Anyway, Sark seems to have been since given the message on him

The other names since connected are Holmon Wiggins, Blake Gideon, Tosh Lupoi, Barry Odom and Brad Davis

Based on all this and his video, it seems like he had most of his OL staff lined up coming in. Other than WR, the churn if names is on the defensive side

FWIW, Sark follows both Drayton and Carrington

Besides Carrington, it is possible Sark might retain Chang too. They say he was part of a recent call with Sark and BC to 2021 commit JD Coffey. But nothing certain on this (IT thinks he's gone)

Here is Hamilton on Flood and Banks

Don't underestimate the Jeff Banks/Kyle Flood continuity on the field and in recruiting. Banks is the lead recruiter on more than 10 2022's in Texas for Alabama.

Banks and Flood are tag team recruiting 2022 OL's ...

Wikipedia is not moderated and anyone, you included, can put whatever kind of nonsense they wish on there.
Rick, Why dont you go tell this^^^^^to some of the guys over at West Mall for me please??
Some of those guys think it is just as reliable as Google, Facebook, NBC and CNN....

Gerry Hamilton was asked in a Q&A about whether both Tosh Lupoi and Corey Raymond would both have to have the "Co-DC" title. His quote --

Tosh has to have that tag.
Not sure Raymond would.

I agree with Drayton. I would tend to agree with Carrington if we can get a believable explanation of where has he been since mid-October.
I too think it would be real wise to look deeper under Cartington's hood. Seems like he may have dueling loyalties....
And we need some guys coming here for the reasons they go places like Ohio st and bama...and we need those kind of guys.
Seems like we've been attracting some good guys but also alot that are just a bit superficial and flaky....not putting this on Bryan. But we need to look carefully at all aspects of our culture and what we present to sell and retain recruits...and specifically are they in lockstep with who we are/want to be...and loyal to the core.
Hopefully, Carrington is or can be one of those guys moving forward. I'm sure this year presented some difficult and unique challenges for guys on the staff.

There are always a lot of posts in here about DCs not being able to coach good D in the B-12, so why not look at the two that ranked in the top 25 in scoring D this year? (Iowa St. Heacock and WVU apparently by committee) Heacock has had top 3 B-12 Ds the last 4 years.

It this is all true about a chunk of the Alabama staff coming with Sark, it's a great sign for that side of the ball. If they are making the choice to come with him, it means they believe in him and his system. They see it as the path to their own ascension up the coaching ranks. This is an excellent signal. The continuity of personnel will be a big help. They will hit the ground running, freeing Sark's time from having to teach it all to a bunch of news guys. So this part seems to be in great shape.

Defense is another story. In this conference, you can have a great offense, tops in the NCAA, and still lose games. Of the names mentioned, Raymond, Lupoi and Bo Davis are all great recruiters. They are all good coaches too, but how well would they work together? If we did add those three, I think you can make an easy argument to retain both Ash and Huztler. This way we would improve recruiting while having some level of continuity on that side of the ball. IMO, Ash did get better over time. When he saw things he was doing were not working, he changed them. And Hutz was probably our best assistant. It can work.
