Coach DeMoss leaving??

Yes, definitely interesting. And, if true, even more interesting is who we might bring in to replace her. No doubt if the news is correct we will hear an announcement from GG and Texas soon.

Home is home.

Well, will be curious to see who Coach G chooses as a replacement. Mickie had a great history of developing post players, but I'm not sure she had the proper recruiting connections in Texas. I think we need both those skills in the new assistant coach . . .

Travis Mays? If Annissa Hastings hadn't just been named as Head Coach at one of the San Antonio HSs, she might have been under consideration.

Just remembered that Shaeeta Williams is a Special Assistant. She could easily slide into the open assistant coaching job. Don't know who would coach the posts, though.

Good luck to Coach DeMoss.

With that said, I just hope her replacement comes soon. Summer = recruiting time!!

Personally, I think having female and male coaches would benefit both men and women's programs. Just because men don't do it surely doesn't mean women shouldn't...Since when are we trying to emulate men's programs? ...and it would be great to have Travis Mays back.

This is not a slam against women. It is a fact that some players prefer to play for male coaches and relate well to male coaches and therefore it makes sense to have a male on the staff. Do you think a male player would commit to an all female coaching staff? Some players like the combination of a male/female staff. Don't make that statement something that it is not. Let's not allow our desire to be politically correct to overrule common sense.

Quit the bickering. Everyone has an opinion and a preference.

When you look at Coach G's first staf here at Texas, none of them had connections to high school / AAU squads in the state of Texas. That needs to change with the new hire, IMO -- male or female, I don't care!

If you think that is crap it only confirms your ignorance. If I suggested an ALL male staff that would be one thing, but I know for a fact that some players do prefer to have gender diversity on the coaching staff. And as for as you stating that it is for no other reason, it is not. The male coach needs to be qualified.

Of course, this is just my viewpoint so don't get your knickers in a twist.

There was no qualifier about the statement other than the coach be "hopefully a man." That leaves the writer wide open to a lot of speculation about why a man. An explanation would have turned aside some of the, let's say, wondering thoughts. Such as occurred to me.

As someone said, I want the best qualified person, male or female. Preferably someone who can coach the posts since that was Coach DeMoss's area of expertise.

So we should make a hire based on what some hypothetical players prefer? Seems like it'd be a good idea if the "we need a male coach just because" people would just drop the issue while they're ahead. Get the best out there w/ Texas connections and let the chips fall where they may in terms of gender.

I think we should consider Kara Lawson. She will be a coach one day and she knows the game. Name recognition and she's young so the players can relate to her.

Another name in the hat a former Texas player that's looking to coach. The one that comes to mind Edwina Brown. What is Edwina Brown doing these days? I mention a former player because of the Texas connection and it will draw the home town crowd to see the former TX player coach. Edwina is born and raised in TX and attended UT. So you know she's familiar w/ the AAU ball and probably the players/coaches as well. And it's something about being a Texan and attending UT that I believe will draw the TX girls to UT. Texas pride!!

So there are my thoughts.

I really enjoy listening to Kara Lawson, but I'm more in favor of an experienced coach with connections in Texas. Someone like Karen Aston, who really helped turn Texas recruiting around while she was here . . .

I hadn't thought about Edwina Brown but she might be a good choice...she certainly possesses many of the qualities some have indicated a new asst should have. I wonder if this decision is something Coach G will move quickly on or will it be a while before we have someone in place.

Agree about K.Lawson I luv her. But I just dont know if she has any type of connection in the State of Texas But she would be a hella of Assist.Coach though

we really need someone heavily connected with Texas high school basketball coaches. This is really an opportuntiy for Coach G - I hope she grabs it.
