Close to a deal

Economic genius! Spend your way out of this economy via entitlements and taxing more. Have you considered running for office because I think you would be a lock for political office?

Why do I doubt that you ever taken a single class on economics in your life? Your generalizations are just inane.

Yes I have taken multiple economic classes. You generalize that I am uneducated and don't have a clue while basing all of my comments on Fox News which is the typical elitist dem position. It has been proven over and over on this board that posting specifics here means nothing. I could post a specific example, you would then follow up with your own then I would follow up with another. In the end we'll never agree because we each have our own beliefs.

Our disagreement doesn't mean I'm an idiot and vice versa. Nothing we say here will change the ****** situation this country is in, but we both keep posting here anyway.

I'll say again, the government does not drive the US economy. It certainly affects it, but has no business trying to dictate it through trillions in careless over taxing and spending.

The deal was passed about 10 PM last night.

Twice as many republicans voted against it, as voted for it. Mostly democrats put it over the top.

John Boehner made a symbolic guesture by walking down into the House Chamber and voting for it. I gather that it is rare for the Speaker to vote.

Really the Republicans and Boehner had no choice. They couldn't allow taxes to go up for 98% of the people. They didn't get any spending cuts, but they didn't raise the debt limit either. This will have to be a multiple stage process.

EVERY person that works and pays into SS will see a tax increase as a result of the bill that just passed. The bill allows the SS tax to go back up 2%(as it should) so everybody will be paying more in SS taxes this year.

There will be an opportunity for a spending showdown in a couple months. GOP wasn't going to win tax and spending battle both on 1/1/13. It did what it needed to do.

If you make over $450k per year you will likely have an accountant employed who can easily shelter you from the add'l 4.5% increase (if not you should get one). This bill does next to thing on the revenue side, its purely symbolic.

The 2% rise in payroll tax is a necessary evil, It never should have been cut as SS needs every $$ it can get..
