Clemens.Officially.F'd

I actually do not believe either person. I just hope that it comes out that Clemens did not cheat.

Regardless of whether Clemens used HGH, McNamee should be going to jail for lying to federal investigators - obstruction of justice. If he did use HGH, they should both be going to jail - perjury and obstruction of justice.

By the way, when I said "Get em Clemens" I knew that it was Congress who was burning McNamee, not Clemens. I just support Clemens - or at least until I am more convinced that he used HGH. The Petitte testimony along with Clemens' explanation does not look good though.

I'd like to thank Rep. Paul Kanjorski for allowing George Mitchell's aide, Charles Scheeler, to actually utter a few sentences. Somebody had to do it.

For the record, Scheeler said he "can't think of a single fact [in the Mitchell report] we'd recant."

How does Congress let this one go - I think they've just won the "looked worst" award. Man, we need term limits!

I love how Waxman dropped the hammer with the nanny testimony. She says he was there, and that his wife slept over at the house which supports McNamee. I will say, Roger is a better liar than I thought he would be. He's a HOF caliber liar in my book.

Clemens only defense so far is that he wasn't at Jose Conseco's house during a 3 day period because of a golf receipt. A round a Golf doesn't take 3 days. His nanny says he was there. Roger Clemens alibi is Jose Conseco. If we are to believe Jose about this, should we also believe him about Roger talking about cycling drugs all the time.

Rusty Hardin should be sued for malpractice for allowing Clemens to testify at this thing. This is a disaster for Clemens. Wait till the entire record is released, it is going to be ugly.

Another big question for me is with Andy. Everyone admits they are so close and good buddies and we are suppose to believe that they had ONE conversation about HGH when they both were suppose to be using it?

I don't see how it's possible to escape the conclusion that Roger is guilty at this point. How many other people are named in the Mitchell report? 60? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't everyone else named either remained silent or confirmed the basic facts? Why would McNamee single out Roger Clemens to unfairly accuse among the dozens of other people he accurately named? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

The funny thing is that people are missing the point about the "lying" that Macname has been doing. IMO..the fact that he has a history of not being forthcoming with evidence detrimental to his clients hurts Clemens more than Macname. To me it proves that he in fact has done and said things not truthful in order to KEEP from compromising players. He is being condemned for trying to protect people he has been associated with, now all of a sudden he is supposed to be making this stuff up in order to screw Roger? Doesn't make sense.

McNamee wasn't the only one naming people in the Mitchell Report. Receipts indicated certain people (Piatt-Tejada) affidavits, as well as Radomski.. McNamee was not the sole person behind the Mitchell report. And Pettitte and Knobby are nowhere near the face status in regards to the MLB that clemens is. there is every reason to lie. reasons we may never know about.

I hope the public embraces Pettitte as a result of his honesty with congress. Yes he took HGH, but so did countless other ballplayers at that time. Where he's unique is actually owning up to it and assuming responsibility for it. Props to Pettitte, and I hope he's more popular than ever moving forward.

Obviously Mr Wizard that is what you have been championing the whole time. Unfortunately, you will not get your wish. Especially when several of the committee members are questioning whether they should even be involved and questioning McNamee's credibility severely.

I'm just enjoying seeing how ****** up our government is to encourage the Legislative Branch to even be remotely involved in a horse **** Kangaroo Kourt hearing such as this.
And I'm watching it just to see how sleezy a Congressman is willing to be just get an erection by putting a guy like Roger in front of the hearing. The Chairman appears to fully enjoy the thrill of the power he has running the hearing.

Here's an excerpt from a Financial Times opinion piece that talks about the "surge" one can get in these power settings...

Pettite and his wife are complete snitches. If they were truly friends at all, you say "you don't recall".

It appears that Mr. Pettitte has a higher regard for the truth than do others.

Good for Mr. Pettitte.

So far, I have found this to be one of the most damning items against Mr. Clemens, note the final 2 paragraphs (from NYT):

As the hearing got under way, the committee chairman, Henry A. Waxman, Democrat of California, seemed to undercut Mr. McNamee’s credibility by saying that he had misled investigators at one point and withheld evidence. But he then turned shifted his attention to Mr. Clemens and harshly criticized him, saying the committee had clear evidence that Mr. Clemens lied during a deposition and made statements that were “contradicted by statements from other committee witnesses or simply implausible.”

“During his deposition he made statements we know are untrue and he made them with the same earnestness that many of the committee members observed in person,” Mr. Waxman said.

He described a sequence of events that suggested Mr. Clemens had not told the truth. He pointed out that Mr. Pettitte, in his deposition, had described a 1999 or 2000 conversation in which he said Mr. Clemens “told me he had taken H.G.H.”

In 2005, Mr. Waxman said, Mr. Pettitte asked Mr. Clemens what he should say if he was ever asked whether he had taken performance-enhancing drugs, and Mr. Clemens replied that Mr. Pettitte was mistaken and that he had been talking about his wife.

However, Mr. Waxman said, Mr. Clemens’ wife did not take H.G.H. until 2003, so Mr. Clemens could not possibly have been talking about that in 1999 or 2000. The timing seemed to contradict one of Mr. Clemens’s main defenses.

Also, he said, Mr. Pettitte told his wife about the 1999 or 2000 conversation shortly after it occurred.
