Chuck E Cheese - Never again!!

How about Scampi's Organ Pizza (or something similar to that name) on Koenig Lane back in the early '80s. It was in that strip center on the southeast corner of Koenig and Lamar.

Had a monkey that played an organ or something. I barely remember it.

Crystal's Pizza in north Dallas was absolute greatness. Great detail and decor for the different rooms.

Now it is Tupinambas, a Tex-Mex restaurant. Pretty solid cuisine, though it is owned by an Aggie family.

When I see a Chuck E. Cheese, I recall that Simpson's episode with "Maestro Beaver-otti" breaking down.

I do remember Pennywhistle Park. One of my earliest memories. I think the time frame for me and PennyWhistle Park is about the same as it was for Pipe Organ Pizza. I was about 3 or 4 at the time.
If memory serves, it was over there in East Dallas somewhere in or around Greeneville Ave.
The thing I remember about Pipe Organ's was that the "guts" of the instrument - piping and all - ran alongside the front window. Though, we may have only eaten there once, I do recall staring at the pipes in wonderment as a small child.

Here's the ironic part about the Pipe Organ's. After I typed my last post, I remembered something else about it. After it shut down, I'm pretty sure that all or most of the organ/pipes itself ended up in a neighbor's house down the street in Richardson - Nottingham Drive. I got to see it a couple of times. The same neighbor had a huge collection of classic cars including - I think - the one that took JFK from Love Field to another place in Dallas before he went downtown.

When I was about 10, some kids were playing with matches and burned down a couple of garages that housed the classic car collection that he had. I just remember thinking how glad I was that it wasn't me considering how much trouble I got into as a child.

This thread kicks all sorts of ***.

Pipe Organ Pizza - I grew up 2 miles from there and went every chance I could get. I'd tip the organist to play the Star Wars theme.

Pennywhistle Park - Another favorite. I liked the spinning cups ride.

Pistol Petes - they had machines that would take pennies. Loved that.

Crystals - near the tollway and 635. My absolute favorite pizza place. The movie room with cartoons running all the time was amazing.

Casa Bonita - loved the **** out of that place. It was near Hurst I think. There was also a big one in OKC and Tulsa. The only remaining one is in Denver. I need to go there soon.

Rage:

I now do remember Chrystal's. You're "cartoons running all the time" reference jogged my memory. I still even remember watching a Woody Woodpecker cartoon there. Wasn't it within site of Spring Valley Mall?

I feel like someone's about to bring up a Whitewater/Garland reference....

I am confused about the whole Chuck E Cheese vs Showbiz.
I thought all the Chuck E Cheeses became Showbizs but there is a Chuck E Cheese down the street from me. Did they change the name back.
Is it Billy Bob or the Chuck E Cheese mouse?

Oh yeah, I would love to go to a Chuck E Cheese or Showbiz if they had a better menu selection, I mean why can't I get fried cat fish. I also could do with out the video games and children.

There is a Chuck E Cheese's south located at Slaughter and Brodie Lane. It's called "Brick Oven". Kids running around everywhere. We don't go there any more.

Shakey's was great! Also remember going to Showbiz and liking it, definitely better than ChuckE.

Ahhh memories! Now I want pizza....

The Shakeys in Austin was located on Guadalupe where Antones used to be. They had a big room and a ragtime band. They would hand out a book of lyrics to the songs and people would sing along with the band to songs like "Bicycle Built For Two" (Daisy to those 2001 fans) and other old ragtime songs.

It was kind of cheesy but cool when I was a kid.

God, I loved Pipe Organ Pizza too! That place was just the shizz. I would have preferred to remain naive and think that it was still there though. What was that pizza place in the center of west Plano, where they showed movies upstairs, and the whole place had a movie theme with big posters of classic film stills? Was that another Crystals?

I was a big fan of Chuck E. Cheese as a kid. I thought it was the coolest place ever.

Then I went to go visit my aunt in Seattle, and she took me to a Showbiz Pizza. I thought it was way cooler.

Plus, even though it was August, and my birthday was in February, she told the staff that it was my birthday, so they would sing a song for me.

I got scared and said that was lying, and she said "who cares, no one up here knows who you are". I thought she was the coolest person ever, that day.

I used to go to Pennywhistle park. That was the big indoor amusement park in Dallas right? I had forgotten about that completely. Casa Bonita was cool too. They had that wishing well in the middle with the genie in the bottom if I recall correctly.

Took my daughter to Charles Edward Cheese's last friday. It's not as bad when there are only 15 people in the whold place. We actually had a good time. She is three, so it made her week for me to take her there and it cost 12 bucks plus tokens. Money well spent if you ask me. Although the pizza tastes not so much.

By the way, I liked it better when he looked more like a rat with a cigar, as in the picture with the link above.
