my family is a mix of eastern and western orthodoxy, plus universal religion... as long as I live in this culture, I will celebrate Christmas. It means the world to my daughter. We always have a Christmas. The full nine yards. That includes services.

My children always got a big kick out of Christmas and the whole Santa thing. I would do it again it was worthwhile for us.

My children are grown so Christmas isn't much different than any other time of the year to me. Other than a few childrens causes I support about all else I do is make sure the young guys with kids get to spend as much time as possible at home. I probably "work" more during the holidays than any other time of the year because of that.

Christmas is totally awesome if you can manage do make it happen in a stress free environment. I go to church regardless of who is or isn't in town but I do when I can no matter what day it is.

Christmas is a good excuse for people to spend at least one month a year being selfless. As a society, I think we ******* suck ****. We are arrogant, selfish and materialistic. Christmas has unfortunately become more about who can consume the most rather than sharing with others and appreciating what we are blessed with. I encourage people to do that whether they believe in God or not. Putting a smile on other people's faces should be something that you should want to do because it does good for everyone.

anastasis, you are of course entitled to your opinions, but you come across as a humorless curmudgeon here. you are of course correct about the abomination that is the over-commercialization of christmas, but what could be better than the wonder and joy you can create in your children's lives with the santa claus "lie" ?

Drew, I assure you I am not a humorless scrooge, although I understand how it might come off that way. I love the spirit of Christmas. I just hate Santa Claus.
