Chris Madrids in San Antonio

"Jelly,

If you want to get the burger Madrid's is famous for, order the Macho Tostada. Add some salsa, japs. CANNOT BE BEAT!!"

Okay, maybe I will try this one as long as I can add jalapenos and at least some mayo. I glad to see they use cheddar cheese and not american cheese.

Chris did indeed disappear for quite some time and Carlos was always there and he always remembered you. I have been only infrequently for a decade and I wouldn't be surprised if he remembered me by face if not by name (except for the fact that I porked up). Not as anyone special - just as someone he recognized.

Just an update; the place lived up to the hype. I went with the Macho Flamethower and it was tremendous. I will definately be going back (hopefully for the Big 12 Championship Game). We stayed at the Hill Country Hyatt and I would also recommend that place. The lazy river was great. All in all, it was a great time.

Jelly, glad you enjoyed it. I was in SA this past weekend for the SA Texas Exes "Tailgate Party" and we went to a friends house for lunch. I miss chris madrids though...

I've noticied Casino Camino comes up often in different settings. Where is it located in Austin? And do they serve anything other than burgers?
thanks!

I wish I could get a tostada burger here in Houston. This is one of the places I have to visit when I go back home to see my parents. Awesome burger.

A casual friend of mine opened a burger joint a while back on 1604 and Sonterra called "Buck's Landing". They had a bean burger with fritos or something that I ordered ONCE. It had mayo on it and I am a mayo guy. I had to tell this social acquaintance that it was horrible. He tried to give me my money back splaining that they had to use mayo with refries because their meat was too lean. I suggested he beat his meat vendor.

I am two days away from trying the CM's Macho Tostado burger for the first time. I am looking forward to it. Sounds like a great place with great food. I like that it is a locally owned place. That means a lot to me for some reason.

Anyways, Chris Madrid's, here I come. Feed me your tasty greatness.

That was such a stupid comment that I did not even bother to fix it or read it again. But thanks for addressing that issue.

Put what you like on a burger as long as you are going to eat it. Mustard, Mayo, whatever.

Okay, I went, I saw and I ate. And I enjoyed very much. What a great place with nice atmosphere. Huge crowd. Getting there as a mess as it appears that most of central San Antonio is under road construction.

Fantastic burger! It is stupid to compare this burger with that of Casino El Camino as they are both different types of burgers. Both are worthy of respect and hungry appetities. I very much enjoyed my Macho Tostada burger and will for sure go back anytime I get a chance to. It will be part of almost any trip to San Antone.

But seriously, no comparing to a Casino burger. Both are amazing and neither better than the other. San Antonio is lucky to have that fine establishment there and we are to have Casino.

I am envious of your well earned clogged artery. I would be the same. One thing I liked for sure better than Casino was the lack of attitude. I know it is part of the mystique of Casino El Camino and I have never ever had a problem with the cooks. But I know many that have. They are proudly the Burger Nazi's. I got the feeling at CM's that if I were to discover I was short on the total amount of cash but a buck or two, somebody that works there or was in line would cover me. It was a very comfortable and friendly place.

Nobody tries to run you down and they had a tasty frozen margarita. I really liked the place and wished we had one in Austin.

SA is easily my second favorite city in Texas short of Austin. No way in hell I would live in the other two big ones. I could in SA though. So maybe this adds to my like of my Chris Madrid's experience.

Agree, SA is my second-favorite Texas city as well. While other people in Texas often come to Austin as their getaway, I usually head to San Antonio. My wife and I were engaged at The Menger, and we try to get down there at least 3 or 4 times per year.

Never been to CM, though, I'll have to put it on the list.

UTEE, my wife & I _almost_ got engaged at the Menger. I say almost b/c that was my plan. I even had 2 dozen roses in our hotel room. But the mood wasn't right so I waited until the next day outside my parents house on Thanksgiving day. How I was able to hide the roses to give to her the next day is another story....

Heh, I hear ya. I had an elaborate speech planned out, and I had a bottle of champagne and caviar arranged at the suite. But, when it came down to it, all I could do after getting down on one knee was blurt out, "...umm, will you marry me?"

And, of course, her mouth was full of caviar and she had to swallow a couple of times before she could answer me. All in all, it didn't turn out quite as I planned it, but it was good enough.
