Chiles...

Is just too unpredictable. I know it is scrub time, but this is two weeks in a row where he can't hold on to the ball. Colt is awesome now, but it does remind me of how little we played our back-ups when VY was leading us to a national title. I worry that Chiles could have his confidence seriously hurt in such situations.

He is an exceptional athlete but the on field threat he is supposed to pose is not materializing.

Well if we can find Chiles a position and he transitions like Melton has, I'll take it

Summed up well. Colt has another year, Chiles needs to play football, not be pressed into a role that won't benefit him this year. I just don't think he is ready to be the new "Ramonce" (on field only!) unless he is allowed to contribute outside of the quarterback position.

Good win and I am sure Chiles is going to get better. I still think he has unlimited potential but in this age of college football, quarterbacks don't get much time to grow up.

Tom, you can say what you want about our coaches but Chiles is getting screwed. I don't think any of us know what he can do as a QB because he has not been allowed to run the offense. We had a great chance to bring him in in the 3rd and run the same offense as Colt to see what he could do and we don't do it. I am betting he transfers after the season to get a real chance at playing quarterback. Just my two cents.

By comparison, Vince and Colt showed something special when they first stepped on to the field. The great ones usually do. If Chiles was a great quarterback, I think he would've shown more than what he has by now.

Amen to that...

Gem, by your last post I can assume that we do not have a back up qb that can run our offense. That is scary. I say give someone a chance to see what they can do. If Chiles has turnovers then give Harris a try or Kinne (sp). Do something just in case of injury. The passes Chiles has thrown have looked good. When we are up 4 or 5 TD's in the 3rd. this is a safe time to see what Chiles can do. If he turns it over we can overcome it. I am not sure he is the answer but I am sure he has never been given a real chance in a game situation.

Chiles is getting far more snaps than most 2nd-team quarterbacks ever do, so it's not fair to say that our coaches are screwing him. I get the impression that Chiles is pressing too hard to make things happen, and he gets visibly frustrated (at others or himself) when things don't go his way. He makes some positive plays to be sure, but then he goes out and makes Reggie Bush-like mistakes (thinking he's so good that he can lateral the ball to others while he is being tackled) that turn into points for the other team. I think JC needs to think more "just drive the bus and keep the chains moving" like Colt was asked to do his first year. As long as he keeps making negative plays/fumbles, I don't see any reason why Chiles deserves to get more snaps at QB (that would otherwise go to Colt).

Melton and Chiles chose their own positions. I think it was only when Melton realized that he was not going to get any more reps at RB that he decided to switch to DE.

Still don't understand what some people see about Chiles that I don't. He does not look that fast....and does not look shifty at all. That to go along with his current passing skills makes me very unimpressed. I simply don't see the "elite" athlete that he was labeled coming out of HS.

The coaches are screwing him?? Come on, he ran the offense today, he's run the offense in every game. Maybe he hasn't thrown every down, but that's not going to be the offense that he would run if he came in and started tomorrow. He's not a passing QB at the moment, and it makes no sense to play as if he is during games.

I'm sorry folks, but PRACTICE is when you learn to run an offense. Game situations are when you hone things, get used to game speed, and experience reading defenses and such. But the fact is, most backups do not get a large amount of real game experience under real game conditions. They just don't.

He's got to move from QB where there doesn't look to be much of a future for him. Hell, he looks big enough to try RB. Move positions now or waste a season.

You all must be watching a different game than me. I never said that he does not get plays. The play calling when he is in is terrible and does not give hime a chance to shine. How do any of us know he is not a passing QB? I would bet his completion percentage is almost as good as Colt't this year. I am not comparing him to Colt so calm down I am only saying that he has looked good passing the ball the few times he is allowed. If you play him while calling the same plays that you would with Colt and the offense stalls that is different. If you bring him in and run three times and say the offense stalled then that is not fair. I do not know if he can do it or not but I say neither do you because you have not seen him get a chance. I am confident that he will transfer because of this and because of our recruites coming in.

Our coaches made him a promise when recruitng him that he would get a shot at QB, they lived up to it. That shot is a failure. He is an amazing athlete with great skills that need to be used elsewhere if he even dreams of sniffing the NFL in any position.

As gifted as he is he has what, one year of experience in HS as a starting QB? He may not have enough depth of talent at that job with enough time to overcome the ticking of a clock counting down to when his chance to keep playing that position ends.

VY was like him as well, somewhat raw. But the skillset was light years ahead. So when he buckled down to learn the position more, he already had more experience to draw from. This is not Chiles fault unless he has that moment of clarity that QB is likely not his calling, and ignores it and tries to force it.

I cannot think of a school that is any good where he would start either. Who knows, there could be a growth spurt and it all comes into play, he has so much athleticism this is not impossible (just not likely). Maybe a Sam Houston State or something like that? He does not want that. He has bigtime skills.

Mr. Chiles, Longhorn, player we all want to succeed on the field and in life...it is time to sit down and realize that you are not a failure or a lesser player if you don't play the QB position. Hone your lethal potential into a precision instrument of execution...execution of defenses.

Reggie Bush is not a good running back in the NFL but damn is he scary in that slot and in certain formations. You have the strength to run between tackles, catch balls in the flat and juke to the endzone. To decoy and have time to still work on your arm and accuracy for those gimmick plays that keep safety's honest.

I think I speak for all fans that we want you and the team to be happy and kicking ***. Assess yourself and your talents in case it is time to focus them at another position with the endzone still as the destination.

Hook 'em and kick some ***, sea bass.
