Chiles

I think this experiment is pretty much over. Colt just laced a beautiful throw to Chris O downfield on the sideline that Chiles couldn't complete in a million years.

I know it's not Colt vs. John, but the difference as passers is so extreme that it's just absurd to continue the charade. Defenses will never have to respect Chiles' arm, which will in turn will limit his effectiveness as a runner/receiver.

He's never really looked THAT fast to me either. He throws a prettty ball, but it doesnt land in the hands of our receivers. So, I dont know.

First TD pass! Grats Chiles!!

If Chiles can develop we can have the following 5 years as starter: McCoy, McCoy, Chiles, Gilbert, Gilbert.

Chiles's TD throw was nice to see. He looked pretty inaccurate on other throws up to that point though. I still think this shows that there is a sizable gap after McCoy. Not sure why Harris isn't getting a shot. Is he really much worse than Chiles?

After watching this game I am very scared to think what might happen if Colt is injured. I do not understand why we can't run our normal offense whith our second team QB. I would like to give him a chance to run the offense with the same play calling as Colt. If he gets the job done great and if not move on. It is not a fair test of his ability when we refuse to run the same plays. Give him a chance to see what he can do. We are very predictable when he comes in. Just my two cents.

I think Harris is getting shorted in this discussion. He's further along as a passer than Chiles, and is himself pretty mobile.

Harris is getting hosed. We are screwed at this point if Colt goes down if we think we can have Chiles run the O. Harris is way ahead of him in that capacity, imho. I think we should be giving Sherrod tons more time in the rotation yet use Chiles in a lot of plays the way he is suited for.

It would be lethal if Sherrod and Chiles were on the field at the same time the way we use he and Colt. That is if Sherrod can get the freaking reps v. quality D's to build confidence and chemstry with the rest of the offense.

Chiles throws much like Jamaal Lord of the Huskers a few years ago. He is a much better athlete, however, and I thnk he will develop just fine given he has a limited amout of time in the position. But the fact is, he is just not there. He may not ever. We have to wait and see.

Don't get me wrong, I am far from a Chiles lover but he has completed 4 times as many from the whole of last year. I say give him more reps.

I do have utter faith in that if he is meant to be a QB and develop, he is in the right hands to do so with both Greg and Major. Given what Greg did with VY in such a short time (but VY was way ahead of Chiles, somewhat, at this point in their position career) Chiles should be able to pick it up sooner than later if he is ever going to.

It is a shame he only had one full year as a starter at QB in HS. Let's dream for a bit, shall we? What if he did that for four years with a decent position coach? Imagine if his raw tools were refined the way we wish they were? Scary. I hope that day comes for the benefit of all involved...not giving a damn about opposing teams or their D coordinators.

I guess that is because defenses, even lesser defenses know what his limitations are and line up to stop his runs despite his great skill at doing so. Sort of like how Wazzou figured out VY was a two or three trick pony and that his line and teamates had no idea what he would do. Key in on VY with a salty D like they had and you pretty much shut him down or limit him. They had a whole season of tape.

Chiles will get it. And when he does, other teams will get it...a mudhole.

I was pretty encouraged by chiles' passing tonight since he went 4 of 5 and got a TD pass. Having said that, his biggest problem is lack of experience and that is going to take a while.

the horns seem more committed to a short passing game this year and that helps chiles. Tonight was a big improvement for Chiles' passing compared to last year and I think he will continue to improve as he gets more experience.

If Colt disappeared tonight, Harris would be the starter.

We have to find ways of getting the ball in John Chiles' hands other than a snap from center. He's a baller. But he's not ready to drive.

That was easily the worst call by the coaching staff, putting him in that series. Not only did it kill momentum, it really took the crowd right out of the game.

Wow seems if some seem to be hoping Chiles doesn't succeed. Also if the crowd got taken out of the game that is just sad for the crowd. They should be able to bounce back.

Perhaps Chiles was a bit nervous. He is still a very young QB.

Funny and correct me if im wrong but this thread looks very familar.. I think we were having this same discussion about a young man with the last name Young not to long ago..
