Chiles at RB?

So i read the little caption at the bottom of the statesman today that said Chiles would have to greatly improve his passing to hold on to the back up spot next year. Since Scott picked CU, and with Charles leaving...would it be viable to use Chiles' excellent speed at RB? Now that we have received the commitment from the hometown 5 star in Gilbert, id kinda like to see chiles on the field for the majority of the plays and was thinking this might be one way to utilize him. what do yall think?

I think hes too small to take on the brunt of being an every down RB. Not to mention, I'd hate to be Colt and have Chiles trying to stop a blitzing LB.

I think putting Chiles at WR like was thought a while ago would be the best course of action if QB is not the answer.

at first i thought he was too small too, but he was listed at 6'2" and 215 on the roster...while i know this is probably fudged some, if he is anywhere close to that i think he could handle at least 15 carries a game dont you? hes actually listed as bigger than vondrell, and about the same size or bigger than charles. if they got him in the rb slot in the spring hed have time to learn protections. and with sub 4.3 speed i just think the potential could be amazing. Kinne can be the backup, not to mention they still have sherrod. change your mind any? wr is too deep...especially with the two frosh coming in.

I'm thinking we will be using Chiles a lot this next year...or else he'll be looking to transfer with Gilbert coming in.

We've got to get that guy the ball a lot more...obviously.

This is a great idea. If he wants a pro career, he simply has to make this switch now and not try to "reinvent," himself ala Michael Robinson or Eric Crouch at the combine. I believe he could be a stud RB.

-return kicks with Quan
-maybe some punt returns
-10-15 snaps at WR/RB
-10 or more at QB

Like people have said, this guy needs the ball more. We might be in danger of him transferring. Have no real source for this, of course. Just a gut feeling.

I am guilty of posting the obligatory "Chiles to WR" in just about every thread where his name comes up. I do this in all seriousness.

I hope the guy is a given a legitimate shot at QB and that he has great success at the position, but I just keep thinking about the amazing highlights of him as a part time WR in high school. In my opinion he could be a tremendous play maker for Texas at the position and that it would provide the best opportunity for him at the next level.

The bottom line - this guy needs to be on the field as much as possible.

We have enough WRs on scholarship. Keep Chiles at QB as a "change of pace" guy to Colt. Let him play like we did in the Holiday Bowl and come up with creative ways to get him the ball by lining him up at different parts of the field.

I think Chiles remains as the backup. Kinne is supposed to have the great arm so he may press for PT. To me Harris seems to be a possible transfer. He could be 4 on the depth chart in a few weeks.

With Gilbert coming in and possibly Shepard I'd think Chiles' days at QB are numbered. Harris and Chiles would be best served moving positions. I'd think Chiles could be used like RT, but maybe more. Use him as a WR/RB and maybe even returner. Harris could move to TE/S or something.

Let's go with a 2 QB rotation. It never hurt us before.

Seriously though, look at the past 2 NCAA Champs. Florida won with 2 QBs and so did LSU. It may be where we're headed.

We all saw what having a running threat at QB can do for a red zone offense. I say keep developing Chiles passing ability and by the time he's a junior or senior he'll be ready to lead this team on another MNC run.

We should use this kid like Ramonce Freakin' Taylor with the addition of lining him up at QB a few times a game too. Ramonce lined up all over the field, including runningback, and was a true game breaker. Chiles could take this role even one step further.

2 points:

1. Where are we hurting? RB. What does Chiles do great right now, without years developing skills? Run the ball.

2. Wild Hog Formation
