09John chiles suspected in alleged physical assault
Written by Ricky Treon | Posted in Football

Longhorns backup quarterback John Chiles is a suspect in an assault-by-conduct under investigation by the Austin Police Department, according to the department’s pubic information officer.

Though the case is currently under investigation by APD, the department’s PIO did confirm that Chiles is a suspect in the case, which reportedly occurred at 2:45 a.m. on Friday. The police report filed said the alleged assault occurred on Martin Luther King Blvd, though it didn’t say what area of Austin, according to the PIO.

The PIO also said the detective working the case, which is a class C misdemeanor, may not get to the case until next week.

A Longhorn official said the team is aware of the situation but will have no comment unless charges are filed against Chiles.

"But, if charges are ever filed on Chiles, this thing will turn into a hurricane of bad press. But that probably won’t happen."

There was a reason why KXAN posted the story earlier today and then took it down shortly after.

So...he allegedly slapped some chick in the face? Call in the swat team! Call the NCAA! Call....Jesse Jackson!

Horns83... Your link says they are alleging that Chiles slapped a girl but the charge is assault. Slapping would be battery. So there are definitely some things about this whole thing that don't make much sense.

Whether this turns out to be true or complete and utter ******** it sucks to have this crap swirling around again.

I've been arrested for "Assault by contact" before and it's basically any gesture/contact which is unwanted and can include pushing your chest against someone, grabbing someone's butt, pushing someone away, etc. It's a very very vague term.

The time I was arrested it was because I put out my arm to block an undercover cop from walking past me into a private bar tab. He felt the gesture was threatening and arrested me.

kick him off the ******* team. nobody should be off limits. mack needs to put his foot down on this ********. make the players think twice about even being near a situation like this

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not true. If true, that alone is repulsing and deserves swift and aggressive action--which in itself is reason to feel bad.

If not true, the fact that someone is willing to make up charges (like Duke LaCrosse, et al) still makes this a nasty, unpaletable situation.

And, no, you don't punish Chiles for being accused of anything. Imagine the egg on Mack's face if he releases/kicks off Chiles and it turns out that he did NOTHING wrong.

A similar thing happened to a Notre Dame player either before Weiss got there or the summer that he got there. Regardless, the player had to transfer and has since sued the univeristy for their actions.

I would like to reserve judgement on the young man until more details are known.

Like whether or not the ***** had his money.

It was my understanding that his first 3 slap attempts were all either behind her or at her ankles.

C'mon...seriously,

There is a line that you cross when you smack a chick that changes you in a bad way. It's a gateway offense to worser things.

Dumb thing to do, if true. No excuse. So Perileaux, too.
