Chasing Rabbits

Anyone see the story about this on sportscenter? I'd try and catch it. It's a good story about the high school kids in Muck City, Florida, where Fred Taylor is from, explaining why they chase rabbits through the sugarcane fields. It's a humorous but likely explanation as to why maybe the kids from this area are so damn fast and agile. There are 3 high schools in this area all w/in 10 miles of each other, and all 3 won the state title in their resective classes this last year. It's actually a good SC story.

It's a "likely explanation as to why maybe the kids from this area are so damn fast and agile"? Really? Chasing rabbits is why they are fast? Really?

In 1961, the cover story of Sports Illustrated about UT running back James Saxton related how Saxton, from Palestine, Texas, would jump off the tractor at his family farm when he flushed a rabbit, and chase it down. The rabbits would eventually poop out and flop over on their side, and he could pick them up. But not a full grown Texas jackrabbit. He said no one could run down one of them.
It was a story that stuck in my mind, so Florida isn't the only place where rabbits have been chased.

Yeah, no way those were Texas Jackrabbits. I wonder why people in South Texas aren't faster than the rest of the state with all those jackrabbits? I guess the good tex-mex is the X factor that counteracts the rabbit effect on speed.
