Augie was interviewed on LHN the other day and these are the things to look for this season:

French is moving to closer, it's been agreed upon by him and the coaches as a good move for the team.

Clemens will concentrate on pitching only.

Gurwitz will move to centerfield.

Hollingsworth and Cooper will move into the starting rotation, with a third starter still to be determined.

First base is a wide open position right now with many
possible candidates.

Boswell will probably move to third and his hitting ability
should really help the team.

The French move has been discussed for awhile now and I think that Duke would have been considered, but they need him against lefties or maybe as a possible starter.
He could be the left handed version of what Hollingsworth did last season as a starter.

Gurwitz to center is sort of surprising, but Johnson likes left field and doesn't like to be moved from there for some reason. Shaw has the strong arm needed in right, but he could cetainly play center with his speed. Augie says Gurwitz is up to the task.

Clemens as a pitcher only is a surprise, I still hope they might consider him as a late inning defensive replacement at first. I hate to see a glove like his go to waste. He can really pick it at first and saved so many runs last year with good plays in the field and his uncanny ability to pick those errant throws.

First base could be Barrera if he isn't catching with Cantu in that mix now. Travis Jones is a consideration as well as others. Could be a decision on whether to get more offense into the line up. It's up for grabs and will have to just see how it pans out.

Boswell being healthy is supposed to really help in the offensive department. He is described as a bigger version of Mark Payton with a really sweet swing. Those are some big cleats to fill and would be a huge offensive lift. He also can field his position well.

Cooper and Hollingsworth are not a surprise as starters, but with French moving to closer, a third starter is needed.
Many avenues with the plethora of arms on the staff.
Will need some middle relief with Cooper not in the pen.
That could be Clemens if he truly is just a pitcher now. As mentioned earlier you have Duke and many other arms available to mix and match as Skip sees fit and I think we know he is pretty good at what he does.

Nothing of course will be set in stone and changes could certainly be made before the start of the conference season if some moves don't work out.

It's certainly nice to have this many talented players to choose from; especially, in the pitching department.

This is what makes this program so successful and keeps expectations so high each season.

French to closer is a curious move to me. That's a lot of innings to lose. He was usually able to give 7-8 quality innings per outing. I guess those 7-8 innings/week could now come 1-2 at a time.

In Skip I Trust.

Agree with UT on French (both the utilization and trusting in Skip).

Clemens as a P only takes a known bat out of the line-up. Nit sure I saw anyone in the fall games that will make that up.

Clemens wasn't playing first because of his bat. He hit only .212 last season by far the worst of any regular starter.

His glove is his best asset. Be hard for anybody that plays first not to hit better, but the defense will suffer some.

If he helps the team with his arm then so be it, but as I said before I would hope he would still be considered as a late inning defensive replacement.

French-to-closer means to me that the coaches already have a good confidence level as to who is
the 3rd starter. Not naming him means that it is someone who did not pitch much last year
because proof early in the season is needed before setting the rotation. The third starter needed
to have a strong outing in the fall games. This means it is likely either Clemens (who had 5 shutout
innings with 3 hits) or Connor Mayes (who had 6 shutout innings with 3 hits).
