Champagne Recommendations Anyone?

Second vote for Banfi Rosa Regale as a wonderful dessert bubbly. You can find it for less than 20 bucks some places.

A GREAT cheap sparking wine is Jacob's Creek Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend. You can get it for $12-15 and will not be disappointed unless you are used to much drier champagnes and sparkling wines. Otherwise the Domain St Michelle is a great less expensive champagne.

If you want to blow some cash, then go with Dom Ruinart Rose'. If you can find it that is.

I would completely agree that Dom is better than Cristal. especially since most places have '97 vintages of Dom, etc.

however, sometimes "better" is relative. Sometimes, the fruitier, less dry flavor of Cristal is warranted, so I order that.

I agree that DOM, overall, should and does rate better than Cristal. However, my argument pertained to your original statement that "Cristal is piss", which is a gross overstatement.

Bollinger is the house with the Royal Warrant. Good stuff.

The first time Mrs. Idahorn2 got smashed it was on Cold Duck and Wild Turkey, 31 December 1969. (I must have thoght the bird motif was appropriate.) For those who have good taste and have never heard of it, Cold Duck was a burgundy sparkling wine. Really bad. She was so hungover she missed the Cotton Bowl on 1 January 1970, i.e., our second National Championship game.

We got some bad stuff last weekend called Red Brute (or was it Brute Red?) that was a sparkling Merlot. Hopefully it will not catch on.

Also a fan of Frank Family Vineyards sparkling wine.

Also like the New Mexico Gruet and "Rising Star" out of Zin Valle.
