celebrity rehab - VH1

Yeah, next week is going to be allsome and creepy at the same time. How can someone in the business of Hollywood not be cognizant of the fact that there are cameras everywhere, recording everything and you are personally wired for sound?

This was the first episode was all TV. Baldwin was looking for a reason to leave, but he sure found one. There is no such thing as an unsupervised pool party in a rehab. That was crap.

The word on the street was that Baldwin texted a picture of his unit to the porn star. That is unfortunately very much like rehab.

and he completely lied about the conversation with his wife that led to him leaving. he specifically told her about the party and brought it up. baited his wife in to getting mad.

his account to the group was different, that he was having a talk with wife, and she started asking about the noise, etc. in the background and got pissed.

Mia speaks the truth. There is no way you get an unsupervised pool party at a treatment center. Question, though. Did he sneak a cell phone in? All the treatment centers I've ever heard of take your cell away the nanosecond you walk in the door. Sure, some are able to sneak them in, but if they've got tv's on him all the time then how did he do it? Mia, do they let you keep a cell with you where you have worked? Just curious.

Hell no. Unsuperised phone use was entirely off limits without a doctor's order. You wanted to use the phone you used the common room phone.

Sounds like a bunch of people came in with multiple phones, and only turned in what they got caught with. You actually saw Baldwin power his up before bed. Chargers would also have been a no no.

That said, people do sneak stuff in, and that isn't entirely surprising.

This episode took it from a "peek behind the curtain" to programmed bullcrap.

once again, why are you people talking about the reality of this? It's afucking tv show.

While there may be some reality to certain situations it's a produced tv show

Because there is a reality for this, and it is possible that properly produced there could be social value in the show.

You mean there are people that really think the producers of this show give a crap about the social value the show could have? I suppose they won't object as long as the show pulls in the ratings, but if they have to choose between ratings/money and social value, well.....

It's disturbing, yet humorous, that someone who has the assumed ability to scroll with a mouse could click on a thread about a tv show centered on getting people past a FATAL and progressive illness and read a few posts comparing said show to what real life rehab is like and would respond by pissing and moaning that the conversation isn't shallow enough. Beautiful brother, just beautiful. If there's one little lurker out there who is thinking he's had enough, but for the life of him can't quit eventhough he's tried every which way then it's my responsibility to not let him go away with the idea that this piece of crap show is somehow representative of how real deal alcoholics/addicts get RECOVERED. Had I seen this thing before I got into treatment my mind at the time would have painted all treatment and recovery principles with the same brush stroke. I'm speaking from no mountaintop here. I understand that there is some serious entertainment value here. ****, that's one thing I love about addicts, they're a freaking riot even after they recover. Enjoy it!!! We do. And if getting your panties all bunched up because there was some genuine caring for the alcoholic/addict who still suffers is working for you, then run with it chief.

I didn't think the producers gave a crap. I did, however, think the staff of the rehab and Dr. Drew cared enough about their own credibility that they wouldn't let it devolve this way. I knew this was an entertainment show produced to be entertaining. That said, there is some value in demystifying rehab. I was hoping the clinical staff associated with this show could keep it in line.

This show focuses a subject matter that is insanely serious, I was just hoping that they would give more than lipservice to honoring that. I was wrong.

Yes, Mia, Dr. Drew has taken a mighty leap off of a cliff with this one. I've seen him speak before on recovery and have been impressed. That's been completely unwound now.
