Cedric in court

The waving and smiling doesn't bother much-the white pants on the other hand......he's ready for a party to break out.

Well - I guess we should be thankful - I mean he didn't show up with a Full Length Fur Coat!!

I saw him on the news at 11am, and thought the same thing about his attitude and apparel. Shows zero respect for the court! I don't give a **** if I'm disputing a parking ticket, I dress for the occasion. It's their game now, Ced. When in Rome, etc.

Respect for the court? It's going to have its way with Benson anyway. Who cares if he doesn't wear a suit?

Maybe, from his perspective, the court is part of a system that's going to smack him anyway. Maybe he thinks it doesn't deserve any undue groveling.

So what's the difference between a suit and something a little more relaxed?

If Benson picks up with another team and does well, everyone will forget it. If he doesn't, the white pants are just confirmation of what everyone already believes.

Cedric's still rich, and regardless of how stupid what happens to him seems, he is clearly his own man (for better or worse).

Maybe he's just doing a conscious f-you to the system. Most people on this board would love to do that if they could afford it.

I don't know him -- only know what I read in the media and the more recent rumblings on this board about him being a cancer. But from the outside, it seems that maybe he is making a point, albeit one that isn't going to make it any easier on him, given our obsession with clothing as a sign of obeisance, status, authority, etc.

I think it bears repeating that Mr. Benson has not been found guilty of any offense and, at least in America, people are presumed to be innocent until found guilty. While I certainly think he made a poor decision by drinking again after his first arrest, I think a lot of this criticism should wait until the legal process runs its course.

This is particularly true in Travis county where if you are stopped by an officer and admit to having had anything alcoholic to drink at all, the chances of being arrested are on par with the sun rising or OU sucking. If you think otherwise, I'll be happy to introduce you to Officers Mabe, Oborski, or any of the other members of APD's DWI enforcement team.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet both charges get dismissed or reduced before all is said and done. Here's hoping Cedric has better luck with whatever team he ends up on and makes better decisions.

If I was there I would have asked for his autograph too...

And then I would have asked him to add an inscription.

"Cedric Benson, BWI, DWI 08"

Now tell me know wouldnt want one of those on a mini-helmet!
