Eric Cuffee ..... Waco (Waco, TX)
:hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem:-horn ..... CB ..... 511.5/188 ..... TEXAS

The cousin of UT offered Parrish Cobb, the Under-Armour All-American received an offer while in Austin for the Texas Junior Day.

Per BON:
His coaches say that he wasn't thrown at much as a junior, but he did end up with nine passes broken up and 25 total tackles. As a short, choppy strider, Cuffee looks quick planting and driving out of his breaks and comfortable flipping his hips to run with receivers without losing much speed.

While Cuffee doesn't have the height that head coach Charlie Strong often prefers in his cornerbacks, he makes up for it with the ability to play press coverage on the line of strength and bother opposing wide receives with his strength and overall physicality. The willingness to battle extends to his tackling ability, as he's a natural sink-and-drive type of player who keeps his feet moving on contact.

Based on his attributes, Cuffee looks like a potential nickel corner in college, but could also effectively make the move to safety if his first step and top-end speed don't translate to cornerback.

Per 247Sports about his performance at The Opening (Texas):
He's a not a track guy and doesn't have any measureables that will blow someone away, but his combination of quick feet, length and a natural ability in man coverage really came through on Sunday. He's got the tools to be a starting cornerback (and a good one at that) in the Big 12 as his skills will allow him to defend bigger receivers on the outside.

Everybody has known [Jared] Mayden is good and Cuffee gave his stock a huge boost, putting himself in that same stratosphere with a performance that earned him an invite to The Opening [in Oregon].

Per HornSports:
Cuffee has prototype size at 6’, 188 pounds, with a sturdy frame and long arms. He’s smooth in his backpedal with the ability to flip his hips smoothly and run with receivers. Cuffee mixes his skill up well, possessing the ability to play press, man, and zone coverages.

With elite field awareness and top-end ball skills, Cuffee can play on the boundary or field side of coverage and has the ability to lock down the opposition’s top weapons. Cuffee plays very tough and is a wrecking ball near the line of scrimmage when he’s forcing on the run or closing on short passes.

Cuffee has taken several unofficial visits to The 40, including one today and has stated that he really likes the coaching staff. Texas is one of his top 5 schools.

------------

Scout player analysis:
Locking down one half of the field, Cuffee is not a prospect who many quarterbacks in the Waco area tested often in 2014. Do not expect that to change. He is a very physical player at the position and moves well for a guy who is around 190 pounds, as his 4.10 pro-shuttle time indicates. He is a good tackler and is not a liability in run support. Teams trying to get outside on his side of the field will quickly find that out.

Strengths: body control, change of direction, and size.

247 --

“Overall, Texas and Texas A&M are the schools in the lead. Austin is a great city, and UT has a great atmosphere. The business school is also an upside. A&M is more laid back, and they are in the SEC. Who wouldn’t want to play in the SEC?”

“I talked to Coach Strong a lot. When he came to my house, we talked about pushing the decision back. He also talked to my dad and my stepmom. My mom and my two sisters came for the official, and he talked to us about the program and things like that. It was great.”

“Malik (Jefferson) was actually my host, and he was real with me. He talked to me about the positives and negatives of not only Texas but other schools. He was real, and I appreciated that. I had a great time hanging out with him, DeShon (Elliott) and Holton (Hill).”

Taylor Hamm reported that Eric Cuffee called aggy to inform them he is no longer a silent commit. We could be the favorite now.

So, either Hammy is being honest for the first time in his life, or he's trying to give us false hope.

Per TFB:
With Cuffee, as most know he was a silent commit to TAMU heading into his Texas visit but that has changed since as Cuffee and his mother were blown away by their visit.

Cuffee is another guy who wants to commit at the UA game on Saturday but it's not final. Texas is in a very strong position to land Cuffee.

Per HornSports:
Cuffee wanted to announce this weekend but didn't have a tv slot available. The feeling from just about everyone involved here is that Texas is way out in front for the Waco High product. Cuffee plays corner, but I actually think he could be a high end prospect at safety and in the nickel. While watching film this week it reminded me of a bigger version of Quandre Diggs who excelled in a nickel role.

When Cuffee makes his announcement I would be very surprised if it wasn't for Texas.

Huge play by Cuffee at UA game... ripped the ball away from the WR (after the catch) and ran it 40 yards. He had good coverage on the WR to begin with.

Per TFB:
No surprise here but have been told Eric Cuffee (Waco, TX) is all Texas. It doesn’t sound like an announcement will happen just yet as he is working on a video with one of the major news outlets for his announcement.

I just found an early copy of Cuffee's video announcement which should come later this week after final editing...

Sure, I'm blushing, but ain't this SSSWWWEET?!

HornSports is reporting that Cuffee has finished his Bleacher Report commitment video and "the secret is out that it will be Texas."

Recruiting Nation on ESPNU and now is about to talk about Texas flipping some recruits, including maybe a DT from Michigan.

Looks like Cuffee announcement will be late in the show.

Crabtree just said on the show that McCulloch is going to Texas over aggy.

Still at work...updates are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Kansas just got a big center for the basketball team, shocking.

He's from Nigeria, Udoka Azubuike, he's in for a culture shock. :smile1:

Cuffee announcement is finally up next, we need it.

It seems we just lost tight end Smith to Alabama.
