Cannibalistic ticket holders

It's really saddening to see the Hornfans site, other UT sites, craigslist and eBay loaded with Texas fans dumping their tickets at 5-6 times the value that they paid for them just to make a buck. It is times like these that you realize how much money really means in the sports world and how it is truly running sports... and ruining sports. Of course there are the LHF contributions and the "true cost" of tickets, but that is bs when not attributing some of that cost to the other games as well.

The ****** thing is, that students are receiving their tickets, and a quick look at craigslist will show you hundreds of students scalping their tickets. The odd thing is, I can understand trying to make a buck, and you should when selling to scalper or broker scumbags as far as I'm concerned. But the thought of how many thousand 'fans' that I sit with the the stands every damn week of the season, buy up the tickets to turn around and sell them 5-6-7 times the ticket cost is just frustrating. Why do they get access to the tickets when they don't even want to go to the game>

Where along the way did I miss out on the want to rake other Texas fans over the coals so that I can recoup a "charity contribution" (and airfare, and hotel, and car rental, and F&B). I just don't get the desire. Don't people just want to go and watch the damn game, and cheer for their team, and sit around others who want to do the same thing, rather than sit around those others who shell out the big wads of cash to go watch the one game, and ***** the whole time about doing it. "Sit down!" "Damn that Greg Davis!" "Why the hell don't we just run the ball more!"

For those of you that want to see something fun, go and watch a game at Iowa State. Go there and sit next to a family from Wisconsin that got tickets to that game, because it is as close as they can get to a Texas "home" game. It can be such a different experience than a game in Austin, bitchy fans, and moneyball that is doing away with sports and sportsmanship in general. I realize that a large majority of fans aren't this way, but we sit around and listen them at every game.

This is just my rant. Mostly, its sad to see Texas fans cannibalize on others that truly want to go to the game, rather than profit off of the passion that people have for supporting their teams.

Supply and demand.. I know this seems obvious; but realize that it cuts both ways: there are several games where LF members overpay for games. The early non-conference games can be had for half of face. I have no problem with it.

I've got no problem with this. The amount of money that is dumped in the program by some making their tickets cost $150-plus to go see some crappy games gives me no pause when someone tries to recoup some of that.

The part that pisses me off the most is the students selling their tickets. I was at UT for undergrad and grad school and not once did I sell a ticket (OU or bowl games) over face.

We put aside 10% for students. If they are selling them on the black market, why are we giving them so many tickets? If students were keeping them, that's one thing but them scalping them is 100% ********.

Um....not a whole lot of students out there could pay the ticket price and the costs of going to the game etc.

SO can you blame a bunch of kids for wanting to make some money on their tickets? I don't..and I'll be buying 4 of them from the students I bet.

Just how it goes...I couldn't go to an OU game one year and I had two choices. Sell my ticket to a fellow die hard at face value..or for $300 to the guy who answered my craigslist ad. I drank for a while on that.

I have no problem with donors who shell out thousands in donations in Alamo Bowl years to make some money back in the BCS years. And I have no problems with broke students living off ramen noodles making some money back too.

I think of it this way....When I get to the game Ide rather have 20,000 screaming longhorns in our section sitting next to me that paid $1000 a ticket and WANT TO BE THERE and want to get there moneys worth. This is much better than 20,000 "fans" who dont give a dam.

Ask anyone who shelled out $ 1,000 or more 5 years ago if they wish they could have their money back instead.

Stub Hub has 7,685 tickets for sale right now, many under a grand so get with it. Be damn thankful we have something so special to spend money on.

I really wanted to engage in spirit of the OP and blast all things unfair related to ticket pricing and costs of going to what should be a fantastic game Jan 7th.

But you did a really good job.

Instead I think I will go online and make my LHF contribution for 2010 so that 12 months from now with Colt, Jordan, Hall and the other 20+ Horns that will be gone I will be in position to go to the game that the Horns 2010 go to.

And I will root for the Horns every minute regardless of whether the new crew gets us to a BCS chanpionship like this year.

It is what a fan does.

Lemme guess, you donate $1,499...and I don't know where in the hell you sit, but there's plenty of one-and-out fans in DKR every game who paid 1/4 for their tickets what I did and ***** to high hell about Greg Davis and everything else under the sun. It ain't just the fat cats...

For the record, I'm paying an arm and a leg for my Alabama tickets because I didn't get them through the LF. And I don't care...

If someone sells you a ticket for $275 that has a market value of $900, that person just gave you a $625 gift. Why should you expect a stranger to do that for you?

Does the OP have a better solution to the ticket distribution problem? There are only a certain number of tickets. At the face value of $275 per ticket, the demand for tickets FAR exceeds the supply. The only variable you can change is the price. If you don't change the price, how do you decide who gets to go and who has to stay home?

Actually, I would prefer to see an "Rewards" type system. I have seen for UT basketball they have set up a student rewards system, attempting to get students to go the games. It would be nice to see a point system set up which could take into account attendance, road tickets purchased, bowl tickets for football alone. I don't relish the though of throwing basketball in the mix, because they have a no-show problem themselves actually. Perhaps a portion of the allotment could be distributed in this manner. For instance, donors under $1500 might be allotted 1000 (or how about 1900 = 10%) tickets based on this "Participation Rewards" system.

Ignatious, as an example, on the Swap meet page is willing to give a $50 discount for posters with 1000+ posts to Hornfans. This is somewhat along the same lines of my thinking.

Honestly, I would prefer to see a legislative type action taken to prevent or restrict the resale of tickets by brokers. It's one thing for an individual to wedge themselves into being the middle man in ticketing. Several states have some of these laws in place, however enforcement is the issue. In my experiences, these guys are right there above Towing companies.

1) Students getting tickets just to turn around and sell them is BS. Student tickets are a privilege, not a for profit venture.

2) If $1200 is the price, then so be, but I'd rather see the schools see all of that $1200 a ticket, instead of getting $300, and $900 to some guy who doesn't even care about the game.
