Can someone make me feel better abou our DB's?

I'm really concerned about the play of our DBs, especially Mr. Thomas and the number of times he got abused on that last series. Hopefully someone that knows a lot more that I do can tell me how are DB's are doing the right things but UTEP QB is putting it in there perfectly or something. Can anyone make me feel better?

Young and inexperienced, but they will conquer that and defeat all!!!

Cedric Griffin used to absolutely kill me to death during his early games.

Now he's in the NFL.

There's your peace of mind.

Yeah. I got nuthin'. They can only get better? They did have their moments and they will get more frequent. Let's just hope they grow up in the two games before Dallas and against the Texans-who-play-for-another-state-school.

The common point about just about every Longhorn DB i ever watched that ended up in the NFL after starting as a freshman is that each and every one of them got burned. A lot.

I can't remember which OU beatdown it was, but I remember that I really wanted to punch someone. I hated everything about Cedric Griffin.

I felt we would never win a big game with him on the field.

I was wrong, and I'm probably wrong for feeling close to the same about Earl Thomas.

we need the DBs to be top 10 material by OU, but since they are so young this is not going to happen. Sure, they will be great in 2010 and 2011, but his October sure is looking like 2003 all over again. If Bradford has time, UT has very little chance.

The young guys will get better. As for Palmer....I'm still amazed that he is going to walk out of Texas as a 3 year starter.

Sure, I can make you feel better... they WILL get better, but how soon is the question. The talent is there. Perhaps toward the end of this season or next season, etc.??? On the other hand, I can make you feel much worse by pointing out that the coaches for ou, Mizzou and Tech will watch a lot of film of our DB's and will exploit each and every weakness they see. Those games start only 3 games / 4 weeks from now. We better have some serious pass rush for those teams, because we are going to get a serious aerial bombardment from them

I wish I could. It's really hard for me to believe that Wells and Cu. Brown aren't playing ahead of Ch. Brown and Thomas. They must be in the doghouse is I can figure. If Thomas and Gideon are the best we can put out there out of Wells, Scott, Brewster, Cu. Brown, etc....then we are screwed.

spread offenses are going to get their yards. we didnt give up many points. our d is playing a lot and i mean a lot better than last year right now. they will get better.

I tend to agree with The General. Spread offenses that have even a modicum of Division 1-A talent (which UTEP does) will get some yards. The key is making those inefficient yards and the Horns did that. They pitched a shutout in the second half. Yes, they were burned on a couple of deep passes but not in a way that would make you think they just don't have the ability to play the position.

It's a learning curve and you simply have to watch the young players develop.

Florida's defensive backs were a trainwreck at times last year--especially in that Citrus Bowl--and yet they already look much better less than a year later.

Give her time!

Thomas was getting exposed all night. Every time they had a big pass it seemed like it was Thomas covering the guy. He needs to be able to break some passes up or lay some guys out.

Gideon played well and was good on blitzes.

Chy Brown has been a little inconsistent. Beasley played well this game.

Aaron Williams is a star. They need to get that guy on the field earlier in games IMO, and not just special teams. Brewster also seems like a guy with a ton of potential.

Didn't see much of Cu Brown. Is Wells even on the team anymore?

somewhere in the 2nd half, the announcers mentioned there were (at least at one time in the game) 5 freshmen on the field at DB positons...

But what I mostly kept thinking during the game is that Will is examining how to play the front 6 or 7 (depending on whether there's a nickel package in) ... how many and who to pass rush... where the linebackers go.. and so on.

I can only guess, but I think last night's game was a lot of experimenting and trial (try this, try that... practice doing this, doing that) and so on.

Positives I saw last night were in the hitting and attitude in tackling. That's can't be suddenly instilled in the players. But the ability to play better mentally can be improved, along with learning how best to play the whole defense given the players involved.

The defense played at a high level the whole game. The last few minutes of the first half still plague this program (when on defense).

And don't forget, L. Houston watched from Austin on tv like the rest of us, and I predict he'll be back with some kind of fierce determined attitude.

Chiles to DB!

Hey, it worked for DKR and Bill Bradley.

Street beat out Bradley because of the new triple option wishbone, Bradley moved to DB, and went on to be an All-Pro DB with the Eagles.

Just sayin'
