C.J. Baxter bandwagon thread

IT saying they received a text recently that CJ Baxter would be getting the start against Rice.

They haven't been able to fully confirm that, but it speaks to his talent level and how highly the coaches think of him.

Another source said he's a Top 10 player on the team.

Does this say more about how great Baxter is or that Brooks isn't cut out for the starting job?

I think it is more of the former, as Brooks has always looked very good when he has been in play, including while playing injured in the bowl game. If Baxter is already edging him out, watch out, we may have another all time Texas back on our hands.
I have a very hard time believing this, but I will not be surprised if true. Wonder if Brooks is still recovering from his various maladies.

Now that the small corners can’t use their stinger..what’s called spearing today...shoulder injuries are a higher risk. As we know offensive players are allowed to spear. Large RB’s can do more damage than before. Imagine being a 180 pound corner and you must shoulder tackle a big back like Baxter and he has lowered his helmet but you can’t.

Sark said in the presser the starter won't be announced until Thu so I think IT is jumping the gun.

I think IT is full of it. JBrooks is the real deal. If he's not the starter, then Sark has rocks in his head OR CJB is the 2nd coming of Earl Campbell, which I doubt.

It's camp news. Not an "official announcement ". On the chess match with Alabama, I suspect we can expect a variety of personnel and game plan feints against Rice.

Not so. Isn't the adage " In order to be the man you gotta beat the man"? Ive been a Brooks fan since he was being recruited. But if Baxter is beating him in practice.
Go back and look at the post from the 19th from HRB. Baxter has been killing it.

Perhaps Baxter is a better fit for our o-line, which has size and strength (except center).

I'm curious and excited to see, when Baxter runs, will snot fly?
He’s not a striker—don’t let his size fool you—he is an evader and block follower. I compared him to Vince; certainly not Earl. Some size to fall forward, but not to obliterate a defender.

Yes, and it wouldn't surprise me to see Robinson out there for the first series. The top 3 may get about equal carries the first game. Who is named starter at this point is pretty irrelevant.
