BYU Series--nothing to see here folks...

Kennedy flies out to deep LF. Two down.

Thomas to the plate.

Olsen (LHP) will come in to pitch.

Chop apparently got disgusted with this game and departed, haha. Meanwhile, Galvan knocked in two runs in the bottom of the 7th with a double to center field. Texas cuts the BYU lead to 7-5, and now on to the 8th.

Pierce brought Boehm back today to lay down the law in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, Borba and Kennedy both grounded out and Thomas hit a long fly ball that didn't quite reach the wall. Only one more inning to try and salvage this one.

Boehm takes care of business in the top of the 9th, with Powell, Flores and Belyeu to start batting the 9th.

Another lost weekend for a team that has just appeared lost all year. Losing a series to BYU much like losing the series to Washington earlier this season is just absurd. If Pierce loses his job at the end of this year, it’s weekends like this that cost it not losses to Aggy, Vanderbilt, or LSU.

Uncharacteristically bad day at the plate for Powell: ground out; strike-out; ground-out; fly out; strike-out

Thomas had a similar day: strike-out; ground-out; sac fly; strike-out looking; fly out

Hopefully this will be a nail in the coffin. Losing a series, at home, to a bad BYU team is just the latest embarassment. Looking over the fence at the SEC, we’d have to be delusional to think we’re anywhere close to that level of competition. CDC, please work the problem!

We are in deep doo doo now. As good as the offense is, just like in football, you can't rely on just offense to win games, has to be pitching and defense.

We have mighty Houston to contend with next weeked who BYU beat 2 out of 3 games so it should be a good three game set with a team that is equal to us. Hope we can pull out a win or two at last place Houston. Houston is on a 10 game losing streak so there is a chance we sweep them. If we don't, you can pretty much kiss winning the conference goodbye. It's pretty slim now as it is and I'm not expecting us to challenge for the conference now. Can Ace pitch all three games every weekend?

I still have faith in Grubbs. It certainly wasn't a good outing, but it seems to me that some odd stuff happened too--pitches that looked awfully good called balls, the wild pitch that Galvan couldn't find so the runner advances 2 bases instead of 1, a ground ball that somehow made it to right field with no out recorded (those of you who watched on tv may be able to tell me what happened and correct me if I'm wrong, but I know at the time I expected them to get at least one out--second inning). I was surprised when Pierce pulled Grubbs, given the lack of solid long relief pitching. When Pierce came out of the dugout, I thought he was just going to tell him to intentionally walk homer-boy Reuter.

If this team makes the post season it'll be on reputation not achievement. There is absolutely no excuse for losing all these games to inferior teams. We're loaded with talent. For those saying we're young, BYU has one player in their starting lineup older than a sophomore and he's a junior. Its getting old.

But hey, I'm hopeful with this crappy season comes the opportunity to improve my season tickets next year. :hookem:
