Burt officially decommits

He should have done it weeks ago. He has seemed unsure about it for a long time.

It also seems today that the staff is not going to stop recruiting Burt. More than anything else, the main reason for his Auburn leaning is the tussle going on between his dad and mom on where he should be (if I am not mistaken, they are divorced). Mom wants him in Austin and dad wants him closer to him at Auburn, and he is torn in between.
Anyway, he has not yet committed to Auburn and Burt just tweeted this

Everyone calm down, I’m still evaluating

Tallahassee, FL 9:31 AM - 7 Jan 2015

I think I saw a 247 report that he still may do an OV to us on Jan 30th. I don't think it is confirmed. So, I guess it will come down to either Auburn or us running out of spots and backing off, or Mom winning over dad again for a rec-commit. As of today he has named Auburn the leader for now. Consider him gone, but this may not be fully over either.

If we had the OSU QB coming over mid year, that might change his mind although he's as much a runner as a passer. Course you get that at Auburn as well. I think once we get consistent QB play these type of things won't be a problem. A pro style offense gets you to the NFL a lot better then what Auburn runs.

If we get late commits under these circumstances -- given the recent run of top commits -- it will mean they vetted every aspect and are thoroughly on board.

I'm on the side of not issuing a disparaging word about any commit or favorable recruit still holding Texas in a top group -- show them we respect their position. Burt comes across like a fine young man. So is Daylon Mack who is also in a "decommit" classification and is sorting through the process.

I don't get the feeling any of these serious recruits are toying with the process or the programs. The Texas program now, as much as anytime previous, is basing everything on sincerity. Both ways.

Jay, you are correct in what you say. I just don't think all schools abide by this however. Aggy comes to mind, but I could be wrong.

Funny you say that. Actually aggy was what came to my mind when I wrote that. I may be wrong, but I think the reason why Sumlin couldn't pull Malik to his side was that he was semi-truthful of the confusing mess he was in, with regard to his DC, with multiple names going around and his not having a clear idea what was going to happen or even what he himself wanted to happen. Malik's turned from a mild aggy lean to a full texas lean in just one phone call, from all accounts. My assumption was always that Sumlin was a damn good snake oil salesman, so I took his failure to fool Malik as a failure to go far enough away from the truth! I think he was fearful of Malik immediately tweeting out something and getting him into trouble if he tried to act like the DC issue was not an issue, when things were very unclear at that time. But that is just my conjecture. Yeah, aggy is aggy and FedEx envelopes may still not be as unacceptable a recruiting device for many an aggy as it may be for others.

So, satisfies dad by decommiting from Texas, but satisfies mom with the Texas is still in the lead.

This could go either way.

I really do think he wants to come to Texas but considering Auburn to appease his dad. For me if I was in that situation and I had no preference over one or the other, I'd go with what momma wants. I love my dad but nobody beats momma. It's okay to be a Momma's boy John, we all are even if we don't admit it.

I hope this young man finds his way to Austin. He seems to really think Strong will get Texas back to a powerhouse. And it would be great for him to be a part of bringing the program back to prominence.

Playing in TX offense will give a top receiver more opportunity to shine than Auburn's.

Our Pro style offense good for QB's and receivers, and runners for that matter.

Com'n to the 40 acres Mr. Burt.

Burt tweeted today - "Will be in ATX on the 30th!!" ... This will be an official visit. Hope he recommits then.

Jay, you beat me to it. LOL You're on top of things. So I think we couldn't ask for a better situation. Unless he's already sold on another school and is just showing up for a trip, we get last crack at him coming to Austin before he decides. I feel if he's still truly undecided when he arrives in Austin we got him..

Burt moved his visit up to this coming weekend for his official visit, instead of the 30th. He will be in Austin sometime tomorrow, as per multiple reports today. Since he has already done the OV to Auburn, I have to think that he is not doing this to fit in an OV there later (though he can still do an unofficial visit on his dime). This has to be because he may be concerned of spots running out at Texas and regrets decommitting due to possibly pressure from the dad. Anyway, it does seem like good news.
EDIT:
Now it seems he has decided to stick with the Jan 30th OV itself, as multiple sources reported that late this evening. Okay, then

Oops. I meant Jan 30th for his official visit (he hasn't done an OV yet, though he has visited us). Typed it when I was falling asleep, I think

Hey Jay no problem. Really I liked the 30th better than the week before because were in his ear last. But when you said he had moved it up, it made me look at the glass half full in that he's anxious to come see us.

Either way I'm just happy he's coming really close to signing day.

^^ Agree. I was kinda trying to find the glass to be half-full there. I also prefer him visiting on the 30th, to get his ear last, though a commit earlier would make it easier on us because we can ease off on Carlos Strickland and go all in on Newsome for the small receiver spot.

It seems Orangeblood.com managed to catch Kai Locksley as was leaving today after his OV. Apparently he said that he and Burt became buddies from the under armor game, and that Burt has been recruiting him to come to Texas since then. Isn't that interesting?

I think Burt is just waiting for Auburn to tell him that they are out of spots, or fool his dad into believing it, to commit to us! I really feel bad for the poor guy.

Inspired by Crockett, I offer this song for Burt's dad's listening pleasure.
If you love somebody, set them free

Seems like word is out to all the recruits that Texas is the place to be.
Hop on the train or get left behind.

Your thoughts, Jay?

We have to think that, right? All the reporters are kinda saying that, and the normally belligerent aggy reporters are not trying to counter it with anything either.

Funnny isn't it? Just 3 weeks ago, we had 26 commits and we have only lost 4 guys since then (Irvin, Burt, Brown, Gentry), and haven't picked up a single commit! And all the talk is about some huge momentum, which is crazy. But it is palpably present.

I think the visit by Murray, Lodge and Soso created huge momentum immediately (mostly also because of the sudden and shocking nature of it) and Malik has jumped in and fanned the flames too. With Mack also coming in unexpectedly, everybody's feeling that something is up.

So far so good, but we need some of these guys to commit. Otherwise, we will have to remain nervous, as we get awfully close to NSD.
