OK, I’ve seen a bunch of film and I’ve got a pretty good idea of who I consider to be the top 30 players in Texas for 2010. We’ll go by position. I’ll make a few comments along the way. Apologies for any errors in the names.
QB—Case McCoy--best QB in the state. Very accurate passer, OK arm strength.
QB—Tyler Arndt—don’t understand the lack of offers
RB—Lache Seastrunk—a bigger version of Michael Goodson as a high schooler
RB—DJ Jones
RB—Dontae Williams—violent runner, really like this kid
RB—Traylon Shead—competition is a concern
RB—Stephen Hopkins—big RB, a hammer who can move the chains
WR—Mike Davis
WR—Darius White
WR—DeAndrew White
WR—John Harris—all of these WRs are better than Greg Timmons who was the best in the 2009 class. Really, really like both Darius and DeAndrew White
OL—Trey Hopkins—5 star stud
OL—Jake Matthews—5 star on name, mid-4 star on talent/production
OL—Luke Joeckel—this is a tough one. There are about 4 or 5 guys who could go here (T Thompson, E Washington, Espinosa, the big fat kid at The Woodlands). I like Joeckel the best, though I’m not married to him here.
DE—Jackson Jeffcoat—5 star
DE—Reggie Wilson—5 star
DT—Taylor Bible—real, real good player. 3 year starter.
DT—Daniel Noble
DT—DeAires Cotton
DT—Jay Guy (when you write the obituary on Mike Sherman, make sure you highlight the staggering whiffs along the DL)
LB—Corey Nelson (stud)
LB—Tevin Jackson—love this kid’s clips. Perfect inside LBer. Will be 230 by the time he lines up for conference play as a freshman, running a sub 4.6.
LB—Shaun Lewis
LB—Aaron Benson
DB—Adrian Wilson
DB—Ahmad Dixon
DB—Covington Bynum
DB—Rashod Favors (could spin into a LB)
DB—Tyler Stephenson (real nice cover CB)
DB—Luke Muncie—somewhat of a homer pick (I attended KOHS). Could also spin into a LB. Apparently Ohio State has offered
Comments. Well, I guess the major issue to address is Conner Wood. I think he’s a fine player, and would be ranked somewhere between 31-40, but I don’t see *it* in the film. Certainly he’s a worthwhile pick up, but I like McCoy and Arndt’s videos better (Arndt’s sophomore clips are excellent).
Lack of TEs. D Terrell seems to be the candidate to end up a TE, but he’s more of a Mizzou-type TE rather than an in-line TE.
There are a ton of good (read mid-3 star to low 4-star) OLs but few top end guys. Hopkins/Mathews are both real, real good. Hopkins especially. Love his feet.
