Bruce Matthews on the OL

the criticism of our coaches is stupid. who in their right minds think that sherm-wow will be still the coach at a&m for the next 5 freakin years? that's right, he won't. jake should go pick a place where he is comfortable to play, whether it is aggy or with us that's fine.

guys, if he listens to his dad he's a TROJAN or a GATOR.

I don't know why you think he's pointing his son to A&M. Jake has A&M 2nd because he's comfortable there. His older brother is there, and he's been there a lot.

The University of Texas had the most accurate passer in college football history last year, and not just by a little bit.

I'd say our blocking schemes are just fine.

Does anyone really know what Bruce Matthews really said about anything...except our staff? Everyone cool it!

Jake needs to know that if he comes here, the Horns will win a MNC while he is here.

If he goes elsewhere, the Horns will win an MNC while he is THERE.

I do not have a subscription so I do not know what Bruce actually said. However, I know him pretty well and he will not get in the way of his son's desires. He will offer advice and perspective, but the decision is Jake's. Bruce will be clear about that.

the comments were rumored but never proven. I wouldn't put much stock into anything that has been posted on the internet.

After reading through this thread agaib, it reads as if it was started as a 'negative' post by someone who has under 25 posts, which equals troll to me.

either way, I stand by my statements made earlier, this isnt the NFL, this is the University of Texas.

Some on this board act like Jake is foolish or would be acting like a little boy to listen to dad. I think it would be more concerning to ignore dad who just happens to be a bona fide expert in the field, reaching the pinacle of his profession against the best.

It is a huge decision for Jake and he is wise to consider all valuable and legitimate information. It is not a situation of a meddling mom with a separate agenda. Let Jake evaulate all data, analyze it, consult with his expert and make the best decision for him. Hopefully, that will be Texas, but if not that is okay. Good luck to him and the Matthews family.

This is sounding more and more like an Eric Winston situation all over again. Though without nearly the amount of family psychodrama.

It's time to put this thread to rest. The younger Matthews commits to the Horns, or he doesn't. Either way, Texas is gonna be just fine on the o-line. It's sorta aggy at best to obsess on a teenager's decision where to spend the next four years. It strikes me as even weirder to use that teen's recruitment as the agenda to push for changes in the way our line coaches teach. Let the Matthews recruitment play out however it plays.

to be honest, I don't think the noise surrounding this issue (whether, and what, in fact, Matthews pere said or didn't say...) is driven quite as much by the hope of getting Matthews fils to sign on the dotted line as it is by the fact that the criticism validates some widely-held opinions. There has long been a current (way too loud for an undercurrent) of dissatisfaction with our running schemes, and IF a HOF lineman can share those, perhaps there is a chance to effect a substantive change in philosophy/technique.

At the end of the day, it's hard to argue with our offensive output over the last few years. However, it's also hard to argue that the running attack has been rather a hit-and-miss proposition since Mr. Young left us. As others have stated, self-examination should be an ongoing process, regardless of a single recruit...

I didn't have to read it but once to understand exactly what he means. But then agaib, I have been around this website long enough to have seen so many low post count trolls pretending to be reasonable, though slightly contrary types l couldn't even hope to recall them all. I've also seen plenty of folks who started out looking kind of trollish only to turn out to be excellent contributors.

Not to say Lotus is one of those trolls, but his style fits the pattern. How he will turn out is anybody's guess.

Don't know too much about Matthews as a player as I've never seen him play, but it seems we have very solid depth on the O-Line. That being said, with injuries and position switches, it's hard to say how many is enough. It's hard to say how far Aggy is from turning it around. I like Jerrod Johnson, but he was shaky at the end of the year. Their O-Line has been a big question mark, so Matthews would likely get early playing time, but it seems they've signed a whole bunch of O-Linemen recently. I wonder if they're bracing for not getting Matthews or if they're just trying to develop depth.

Uphauling! I wouldn't classify 'agaib' as a misspelling as much as bad typing...you can make fun of my typing all you want, but the small keys on my phone can cause the thumb to hit the 'b' which is next to the 'n' on all keyboards....and while walking between class, I do not have time to proofread everything.

When I start using their, instead of there or they're, then you can go the misspelling route.

) I am not saying this is a troll, but when you put all of the evidence together, low post count, etc., it starts to look like one. Like the poster above said, only time will tell.

It's threads like this and especially some of the responses that turn kids away from some schools. I know Bruce personally and I am glad that he and Jake don't read any schools recruiting boards. I will confirm that according to Jake, it is between us and aggy. And he his really leaning towards us.

Actually threads like this are everywhere whether it be for Aggie, LSU, USC, FL, OK, etc threads. The thing is the recruits are very likely smart enough to not let fan threads inflluence their decisions.
But we probably need to let this thread go for right now until Mr. Matthews makes his decision.

I want for this kid, as I do for all kids, to choose the school that's right for him. It if's Texas, great, but if not, that's OK, too.

Too many people spend way too much time obsessing about where these kids will go to school.

I don't think this thread would turn somebody off to Texas. The points are reasonable and many wish him well no matter what his choice. Nobody has bagged on the kid, either.

Scharnell, once upon a time you had a low post count as well. Would you have appreciated someone referring to you as a troll as well? And, by the way, tell me once agaib, just what is a troll?

I'd love to see Jake in orange, but can see why Bruce would be an Aggie lean: with all their 3-and-outs, Jake would be well-rested with strong knees for the NFL.

If Bruce Matthews did say something uncomplimentary about our blocking schemes, it would be some validation for the anti-Greg Davis faction's agenda. I believe the first report of Matthew's comments surfaced, not surprisingly, at the Barking Carnival. And I would think if the staff did some reevaluation of our blocking schemes based on Matthew's comments, it would be with the idea of improving the offense, not to try to win the recruiting war for his son.
