bridesmaid with liver cancer

Around Thanksgiving I found out that one of the bridesmaids in my wedding was diagnosed with liver cancer. She's only 30 years old, and also a newlywed of sorts (married for about 3 years now). The type of cancer she has is very rare, and usually only appears in folks twice her age.

The good news is that she is getting her care at M.D.Anderson with supposedly the best liver cancer specialist on the planet. And the fact that she is only 30 means that they can give her the chemo full force and her body should be able to take the beating.

Nevertheless, the survival rate for this cancer is very low. So please keep Kelly in your prayers, as well as her family, and the folks that are taking care of her.

I know that there are more than a few of you on here who really believe in the power of prayer, as I've seen it work here in the past.

May God continue to bless all of you.

Very sad, yet keep the faith. MD Anderson is the best of the best, and I hope things turn out well for your friend.

Update:

I saw her last week and when she isn't dealing with the chemo (one big IV dose, then two weeks of oral chemo and then one week off) she says she feels great. She looks to be healthy and happy on the week off.

She started on her third of four rounds of chemo this week. And after this round they will do a PET scan of her liver to see if the tumor (or tumors, I'm not sure if there are more than one) have shrunk enough to go in and do a liver resection. Please keep Kelly in your prayers so that she can have this resection done. Thank God that the liver is the one vital organ that can regenerate itself. That's the good news in all this mess.

Update:

Good news!! The chemo that she is on has decreased the size of the tumors by 17%. The docs are keeping her on the protocol for now and hoping for more reduction in the tumors so that they can do a resection.

Thanks for the prayers for Kelly, and keep them coming!!

P.S. When she sent me the email, the subject line read "Shrinkage!!!" All I could think about was George on Seinfeld.

GREAT NEWS!!! Kelly had HUGE shrinkage since the last appointment. 40% on the small tumor, and 20% on the large one. Her oncologist told her that he's already been in touch with the surgeon, who plans to operate!! Her appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow, and all the final details will be scheduled at that time.

Please keep Kelly and her family in your prayers!!! It's really working!!!

May God continue to bless all of you,

Kelly's operation is tomorrow. They are removing the right lobe of her liver (the bigger part of the liver, more than 50%). The good news is that the left lobe of her liver has been growing already to compensate for the loss of tissue (due to the cancer) on the right side of her liver.

Please keep her, and the team of doctors and nurses, in your prayers tomorrow.
