Breaking: Mayfield Suspended

If the NCAA had any balls Bakerfield would be suspended fro the rest of the season and ou should be excluded from a bowl game. However, we know the NCAA won't do a damn thing.

True, the NCAA has no balls, but neither does the Big XII.

The rest I could not disagree more with. Football is a game of angry men; an emotional game with lots of "talking". What Mayfield did was classless, but it injured no one, other than himself. Doing it on TV warrants a punishment for being a bad example to youngsters watching. Had he purposely taken out a player (think Kenneth Sims & TCU) or told the OL to release the defender so he could through the ball point blank into his face (think Sammy Baugh & Bobby Layne), maybe something more harsh.
There are far worse scenes every Friday night on West campus. He sits out first two series, while Kyler gets two TDs. He probably lost the Hype$man. He's on his way to get pounded in the NFL, if not by the opposition, by his own teammates.

Watching Sam or Boo- noticeable difference in maturity as compared to Baker.
I’m sick of the “he’s a competitor” BS.
Other more classy/more competitive dudes:
-Staubach
-Singletary (BU LB excuse the spelling)
-VY
-Tebow

I suggest they are more competitive while showing respect and leadership
-Colt McCoy

Just saying if I’m a wvu player I’m not shaking his hand either he might have touched himself in the locker before kickoff

(The Heisman has become a joke as evidenced by the non-selection of Vince and Colt)

VY not winning it was a total farce. Not so much with Colt, there were several deserving guys in 2008 (Bradford, Tebow, Crabtree) and 2009 (Suh, Gerhardt, yeah even Ingram).

I'm not sure that the 'punishment' will have the intended consequence that some think it will. For starters, there is not much of a drop-off talentwise between Mayfield and Murray. Perhaps maybe the score will be a bit tighter but that's about it. Also, since it's not clear for how long Mayfield will be sitting, West Virginia has to now be ready to play against two different quarterbacks--which works against them as far as being fully prepared. Plus, this is a home game where OU is already favored to win especially given that West Virginia's starting QB is out due to injury.

If anything, it would seem that sneaky OU has actually worked this to their advantage. That said, the only suitable retribution in this case will be for the 'Canes to punish OU on the field.

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with because I never typed a word about FB and the angry men who play it. What teams do to each other before/after games off camera I could care less about. However, being a total douche in front of the whole country, including little girls, is pretty despicable.

What the dumbass did will cost him the Heisman and no telling how much $$$$ and notoriety winning it brings. And both of them are very substantial.

His daddy is really going to hold his breath till he turns blue this time.
And fork OU. Bunch of ---- suckers.

Is there some kind of sanction that goes along with "should not be tolerated" or is it kinda like you let it happen with no consequence but aren't happy about it.

The Big 12 Conference announces a public reprimand of University of Oklahoma football student-athlete Baker Mayfield for directing inappropriate gestures and yelling profanity toward the University of Kansas bench, and fans, following a third-quarter score during Saturday’s game. His action is in violation of the Big 12 Conference’s Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct rules.

“Mr. Mayfield’s actions are unacceptable and should not be tolerated,” said Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “I am grateful for the efficient management of this matter by the coaches and administration of the University of Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield is a truly outstanding competitor and I generally appreciate his style of play and the manner in which he competes. However, the behavior he exhibited on the sideline during the Oklahoma-Kansas game was inappropriate and contrary to our sportsmanship policies.”

So Baker has suffered a public reprimand and then he and OU have to endure the subsequent, icky, wet kiss on the hiney.

Way to be tough, Bobbie. Maybe you could put some atomic balm in his jock as an appropriate punishment. Let's face it, having Bobbie Bowelsby telling you "bad, bad boy" is far worse than any suspension Riley could impose.

Talk about nauseating. Bowlsby, a jock sniffer? Apparently so. This is a level of equivocation normally reserved for someone like Roger Goodell.

SabreHorn, your credibility continues to skyrocket...

From today’s AAS. Hadn’t really followed this during the season. But, hands down NCAA Douchebag of the Year award!!

“While his play has been outstanding, May›ield’s in-game conduct has been questioned all season. He apologized to Ohio State fans after he planted the Sooners flag at mid›ield at the Horseshoe in celebration of OU’s road win over the Buckeyes. May-field taunted Baylor players in Waco. He wore a T-shirt before the Sooners’ game mocking Texas Tech fans. And in pre-game warmups, he threw at TCU players who ran through the passing drill.”

I'll say it again, the folks who evaluate players for the NFL are watching. How can this be seen as anything but a lack of maturity? But don't worry Special Snowflake, Cleveland will pick you as long you text them during the draft and ask them to.

I image Mayfield sits the first offensive series, gets a nice lead during the rest of Q1 through Q3, then is 'punished' again in the 4th while the backup QB plays.

Bob Bowlsby is miscast as Big 12 commissioner. That kind of brown nosing ability should be rewarded with commensurate responsibilities. I'm thinking something really challenging ... maybe North Korean ombudsman?

While all of us on this board are disgusted by Mayfield and his A-hole antics, the real "tragedy" is that Oklahoma either does not comprehend the dangers (to Mayfield himself) of his personality flaw or, more likely, they don't care because the team is winning with him.

Special Snowflake reminds me of a classmate of mine in high school. I'll call him "RM." RM was an extraordinary cocky fellow and that characteristic was increased tenfold when he drank. With just one beer he became aggressive and belligerent. With more, he was uncontrollable, even by individuals much larger and stronger. He became possessed.

I was told that RM became an attorney in Houston. Some years ago apparently there was a story in the Chronicle that RM had disappeared and to this day, my understanding is that he was never found.

If OU truly gave a crapola about Mayfield, the person, they would make him pay a severe penalty. That way maybe, just maybe, he might get the message.

I would expect for Tom Herman to handle this type of player situation in such a manner (a severe penalty) because Herman says that he has love for his players. I believe him. If OU and Riley really felt that way about Mayfield, they would send him a strong message, even if it hurt the team or his chances for the Heisman.

Just one man's opinion...

Baker Mayfield and OU probably think the league should also suspend Will Grier for shooting the finger at everyone coming off the field after he dove into the end zone..
