My thoughts are as follows.
Given where Mueller is digging, Trump is in need of some good distractions. Bring in a hawk or two like Pompeo and Bolton to drum up some good military activity is a necessity. Ironically, Bolton was too hawkish for W. to get approved twice. And, his mustache was apparently an issue with DJT 18 months ago. I wish that were a joke but it's not. Kind of a sad commentary on the whole "I will have the best people".
This is very similar to me to the 1990's. I think the main problem in the buildup of AlQ was that Clinton had his hands tied behind his back by the right due to the Lewinski stuff who were going to yell "WAG THE DOG!" at any action he took to quell that growing threat. And, I have consistently blamed Clinton for that, not the right. The difference is that DJT will likely be the aggressor. I've been awaiting his Reichstag Fire.
