Bohls: Losing Lone Star Showdown = Apocalypse

ok aggys posting about the LSS here - what is more important - beating UT or measuring up against the best nationally - so when the directors cup comes out at the end of the year - and if you are not ranked higher than UT does that mean your program is better - you know you do lose sometimes in sports, but still finish higher nationally - for example - football finished top10, basketball #5, vollleyball finished in the top 10, etc - how did your programs do nationally - or do you guys really care - your athletic director is a perfect fit for your school and i actually think he is pretty good - but his obession about Texas is comical - his comments i read in the paper this morning are right on cue - him implying that his programs have caught up and so on - some programs are defintely better, but win some national championships before you imply your program is better - again, it is all about perspective - goals to compete nationally or goals to beat one school every now and then

Toronto and Philadelphia both went 1-1 against San Antonio this past season, so I guess they are both just as good as the Spurs are, right?

how bout the excuses stop for losing this little trophy and someone light a fire under macks *** so we don't go on a 3 game losing streak to them in football. and they're inching closer in baseball/basketball. good thing we have nothing to worry about.

yes, i know they're just annoying aggy but this shouldnt be as close as it's been recently...

I hate losing to the aggies more than anything, but claiming that last 2 losses alone make A&M better is silly. I would not trade overall seasons with aggie. Texas was competing for a BCS bowl both seasons until the loss, where as aggie was playing the spoiler. I guess to aggies the spoiler role is a sucessful season.

Aggy will never become a championship level team in the "major" sports until they get beyond the mindset that beating Texas is their #1 goal. There is so much competition nationally that teams can play above their heads one week while falling flat on their faces other weeks or during the tournaments.

NU plays us well in baseball, but they seem to underachieve come tournament time. It took them forever to reach Omaha, then three trips in front of a home crowd before they won a game. Not as bad as aggy, but the point is made. I'm not sure NU has the same mindset in baseball as the Osborn teams had in football.

I wouldn't feel too good about Texas getting up for and beating KU in basketball only to lose earlier than them in the NCAA tournament. Final rankings are what it's all about (ask me after losing 5 straight to OU and 3 straight to aggy, and I may change my tune).

so from your link, outside of track, golf, and a bunch of women's sports, you were ranked below us in every sport. congrats on that.

i'm leaving out baseball since the season isn't over and final rankings will change.

Lone Star Showdown point total breakdown

Men: Texas 6.5 - A&M 2.5
Women: Texas 2 - A&M 8

agfan00 - again i ask - what is more important - having an athletic program that is consistently up at the top and one of the best nationally or beating UT every now and then - because in your explanation your comparison was all against UT - last i checked UT was still in the top 10 in the director's cup for overall athletic performance - granted you guys have had some success this year, but where will you finish nationally - it is a matter of vision
