Big XII Tiebreaker Rules

Fortunately Texas isn’t playing Cincy or UCF this year, which are the worse 2 teams in the conference so far. Thus, compared against OSU or WV, I think we win the toughest schedule tie-breaker in case of a 3-way tie.

Good point. I had not thought of that.

Though after them, we do play the next 6 lowest teams in the standings.

But yes, it’s way too early to tell which way things can go.
I would say that if we win out, odds are that we make the Big12 championship game. But it sure would suck to win out and then still be left out in the cold.

It’s documents above that makes me regret my HS diploma.
I read it twice. I was more confused on round two and tried to follow you smart fellas comments.

Shoot, i just say win out and I can’t see UT not going.

The only thing I shake my head about is
“Only one win against a team from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision or lower division will be counted annually.”

BS - thats for Thec, Kstate and BU. Zero games against FCS count!

Way too many permutations to reasonably calculate. OU is not likely to lose to anybody else. Unless, they would try, but that’s a bit Machiavellian. They want to go 14-0. And, they could. Texas can only focus on winning out. No cool-aid involved, I believe Texas is a better team than OU. Play 10 times, win 7. Both these guys have to run the gauntlet that is the ‘hate tour’. Face it, we’ve condemned TCU, Baylor, TT, KSU, etal to perpetual irrelevancy. Nothing the Big XII (or Big XVI) can do will ever replace Texas and OU. Then there is the pathetic referees. When Baylor plays Houston, they are awful. Just awful. Spend endless minutes reviewing every play, meaningful or not. The league would be better off completely without them and just booth review he entire game. But, then there is the bias factor. UT and OU have one chance at fair calls. When they play each other. Every play ball spot will be half yard off, touching will equal holding or PI. Or, mugging our receivers will be ‘missed’. Any chance to dump UT momentum by some joke play review is coming. Just get ready for it. We will need to stay game to game focused, be a little bit angry, and patiently overcome Big XII bias. But, worst case, if we take care of business and win out but miss the playoffs, who among us would have balked at a 12-1 record and a NYD bowl. Nobody wins MNC every year. Any recruit that isnt keen to get on that train, isnt our sort of person anyway.

Okay….

so one of you brainiacs tell me how the OU loss to KU affects us.

Given how KSU dominated today, maybe we shouldn’t worry about the larger picture until we have faced them, but I can’t help myself….

Ptolemy and Euclid could not collaborate and give you a cogent answer. As messed up as the Big XII referees are, the committee who does this selection is even more arbitrary. That said, your other comment is more crucial. We cannot continue to leave 14+ points inside the 10 yard line week after week. We need to consider every game the last of the year and play like our life depends on that one game. Also, nobody on this board gave us a chance in 100 to go 11-1. Can anybody on here tell me they saw our defense carrying the load? Hook ‘em Horns!

You're right on this point several had us going 12-0. :smile1:

Personally I feel that we win out and there will only be one other one loss team in conference.

KU has 2 conference losses. There is tie breaker issue.

In looking at it, maybe it’s not as complicated as I worried.

We have 5 one-loss teams.
Us, Okstate, OU, Iowa St, Kansas State.

OK state and OU both play each other so one of them will have another loss.

We still play ISU and KSU, so if we win out (a giant “if”) both of those team will have a second loss.

So, IF we win out, we and maybe one of either OU or OSU could also be 1 loss.

Looks like we will enter November with a 4 or 5-way tie. KSU crushed U of H today. If refs call a game like UH we are screwed next Saturday. because our defense carries our team. at least now.

I mean, lose to ISU and we're basically out, considering there's not much of a chance that everyone else will lose a 3rd game.
The other view is easier - win the last two games, and as the only one-loss team left standing, the Horns are in the Championship game.

This tie breaker stuff is a hot mess. I just want our guys to win out. IF we happen to have a rematch with OSU, I'm good with that. So, no offense, but, Go Cyclones!

If the season ended today, I can't figure out which 5-2 team would battle the Horns. Choices are OU, OSU. ISU, and KSU. In my opinion, the #1 seed should get to pick the opponent in this scenario.

So this dude tried to make a tiebreaker calculator mred's Big 12 FB Standings Generator

Funny he says the Big 12 tiebreaker rules are too ambiguous so this is his best guess.
Crazy....
  • if KSU and OU win out and Texas beats just ISU, we're in at #1.
  • if KSU and OU win out and Texas beats just Tech, we're out at #3.
(I did assume no other team ends up at 7-2.)

If that scenario (with OSU losing again) I believe that Texas would make it with OU because head to head would be OU 1-0, Texas 1-1 and KSU 0-1.

Almost a certainty - not ou. Big XII does not want the two daddies playing for their championship.

That's Yormark's second worst nightmare.

The worst is the cheap brass plating rubbing off that ridiculous MVP belt they're going to award right on TV

You see the Big 12 has issued two clarifications on who can make the Big 12 CCG? Of course they're not doing that to hurt a team leaving...
