Big XII Baseball Championship

Ground out, 5-3. 2 outs.
K looking.

last chance, bottom of the 9th.

Due up:

Schuessler
Kennedy
Galvan

Anything to the outfield ties this game. Galvan puts it in play to short, short bobbles it and close play at 1st. Can't tell on replay.

In the scheme of things, this tournament literally means nothing, Texas was locked into a two seed no matter what it did. That is cold comfort though after Texas craps the bed once again in Arlington.

Where are our resident sunshine pumpers tonight? They’re conspicuously absent. Like aUTfan said earlier, it's almost like Pierce was trying to lose this one. I hope we get sent to the Fayetteville regional, just so CDC can see exactly how far we are from being SEC ready.

We just went from a higher 2 seed to maybe college station or Fayetteville. The failures several times on Tuesdays and BYU combined with this will haunt us in the regional placement.

I'm not on the fire Pierce train but how do you lose to Cincinnati? Gotta be better than that this late in the season.

that really sucked. bad defense, bad pitching (and not supported by the defense), not very timely hitting for the most part, bad coaching, bad . . .

Overall, has this "team" made significant improvement this season? Has any one aspect made significant improvement?

If there is to be a regional, hoping for Washington County if for no other reason than I don't a bunch of Hogs in Houston and don't go to XNA as often as I used to. Going to Brazos County would mean listening to Aggies continuously for years.

If Pierce is credited with improving a player, he’s also responsible for a players retrogression/stagnation…. i.e. LBJ, P. Brown, O’Dowd, Tole, and Shaw. All of them took steps backwards from last year.

I haven’t looked to see where the defense and pitching as a whole is at comparatively but I would say the defense and pitching the last two years has taken a step back as well.

The goal for the Big 12 tourney shouldn't be to necessarily win it (don't want to burn your pitchers out trying to do that), but to at least play a reasonable number of games so that the team keeps its playing edge. Pierce chose to save our Friday night starter, but for what exactly? Grubbs should have at least started in the second game (once you lose the first game, it's win or go home), who cares if we have to rely on lesser pitchers deeper into the tourney. (if Grubbs is nursing an injury I'm not aware of, then that's a different story.)
