Big Game Bob Stoops tops another list....

Stoops is overrated, no question. Not to say he's a lousy coach, but the way the national media fawns over him is ridiculous. Given his mediocre bowl record, there is no way he deserves to be mentioned with the likes of Carroll, Tressell & Spurrier.
But the most overrated coach in the Big 12 has to be Mike Leach
. Every year, Texas media (esp. in DFW & Houston) predicts a "breakthrough year" while raving about his one-dimensional junior-high offense. And every year, they lose at least two games they should win easily, thanks to a piss-poor defense.

If by winning more games than any other coach in America since 2000 is overrated then the rest of the coaches are in a world of ****.

if you were going to start a program tomorrow, and you wanted to win tomorrow, you would have to place him in the top 3 or 4 candidates for the job. tressell, PC, maybe.... maybe myer. mack would deserve consideration.

based on that, i don't see any way possible that he is overvalued. now, he might be overrated, but the media and fans are the reason he got that way in the first place.... so how can they cry he no longer lives up to expectations? who does?

bob stoops will not shy away from expectations. in fact, he will embrace them. he will operate with no excuses. well if he's expected to field a team that wins a bcs game every year, which seems to be the case, then he's coming up short.

if the media only expected him to win the conference most years, then he'd be right on par.

I'll throw out a couple more:2004
New Mexico, 24-27

2006

TCU, 3-12 (how in the world does the mighty Leach O only score 3 points?!!?)

It seems like Tech is good for dropping at least 1-2 games a year against teams they should, on paper at least, mudhole. Often this happens when their offense fails to show up, along with their typically mediocre defense. Though to be fair, the Texas passing defense was much worse than Tech's last year.

EDIT: corrected the score of the New Mexico game.
