BIG Big 12

Assuming Texas wins this game against Minn - and I think they will - the Big 12 will make up 25% of the teams remaining in the tournament with all 8 teams advancing to the second round of 32. Wow!

An impressive showing by the Big12, for sure. Hope it keeps up for a little while longer, with the girls in burnt orange going all the way!

UConn in the next round. Stink.

And the Big East, the only other conference (I think) with 8 teams in the tournament, goes 6 for 8. It seems curious that 5 of the second round games are matches between Big 12 and Big East team, although the Big East has the higher seed in three of those contests.

the big 12 going 8-0 is very impressive. overall, even though we saw some blowouts in round one (tenn vs. oru, uconn vs. cornell) and relatively few upsets, many contests were closer than i expected, or that seedings and records indicated they would be. i think round two is going to be very interesting and will produce some big surprises.

Glad to see the Big 12 do well in the first round, but since each Big 12 team was the higher seed that was to be expected. The true test starts today when the Big 12 starts to play teams with higher seeds. What we really need is to have several teams in the Sweet 16.

It was sad to see so many Big 12 teams fall to Big East teams, but two Big 12 teams remain in the hunt. Right now the Big East has the bigger bragging rights with 5 teams in the Sweet 16 but if A&M and OSU get into the Elite 8, the Big 12 might have some redemtion. As much as I hate to say it, GO OSU and A&M!! The Big 12 reputation is riding on your doing well and going deep!!!!

And everyone crucifies the SEC for chanting SEC! SEC!

I will be the first one to say there is nothing wrong with rooting for your conference.

Seattle...a rising tide lifts all ships...what's good for one school in the Big 12 is good for them all. Recruiting, TV coverage, resources, fan base... we all get better when we play against better teams.

Nothing wrong with cheering for fellow conference teams, but I'd be embarassed if our fans started chanting "Big - Twelve [clap clap] Big - Twelve [clap clap]" after TEXAS won a game.

I come from a family of Ags. I remember when UT beat USC in football to win the national title a few years ago. My aggie brothers were rooting for USC and I thought - your kidding right? A$M had beaten UT that year so it stood to reason that they would want to claim that they had actually beaten the national champion. Nope. Never root for UT. That's their rule. Personally, I don't get it. When teams in your conference do better, your team shares in the respect that comes to the conference. If the Big 12 teams left in the tournament drop out sooner rather than later doesn't it stand to reason that our semi-lame record this season simply gets more lame?

Well that makes me feel better. Having lost to them the last two years I must have blocked out enough of the memories to think they got us that year as well. Did we really go undefeated? Man I miss Vince Young.

I wonder what it was that I was arguing with my brothers about? Maybe I was saying that it was better to have lost to the national champions rather than the runner-up!

That was an understandable error to make if you come from a family of Aggies, since the Ags talked up that 11 point loss as if it were a win.

As others have noted, seeing the Big 12 do well can only help in terms of exposure for the conference. Does it mean I have to really cheer and root for some other program? No, but it did put my butt in a seat for the K-State games at Bridgeport with a hope that they could pull off their two wins to move on.
