Big 12 Tourney

The statement that the response was directed was, "Is Shaka still coaching this team? Sure looks that way!"

No; Shaka won this tournament last year.

A win in the tournament will be a surprise.
I’m a bit surprised that you would be surprised if this team won a game in the tournament. The horns beat ku, TN, ISU (when they were in the top 20) and were 4th in the Big 12. arguably the best conference in the country.
Anyway, I’m expecting them to win their first rounder. :hookem3:

Geez! I’m not impressed with these “posts”….A Loss vs KU ….I get it!

But…this was a TRAIN WRECK!

Many of you know I’m like a broken “record player” BUT…..I roasted Del Conte tonight over the lack of kids that actually “ spread the offense “ and can get a look at a “3”.

Bash me all you want but I worked under the Spurs in SA and saw first hand what it means to “ stretch the floor”!

We ( Texas) are playing 1955 offense!

Last 11 games starting with the first Tech loss:

maybe you should look at our 3 pt percentages.

I don’t understand how you can get much by using the Spurs as your model that Texas is compared to. The Spurs have some really good shooters. Mid range shots (8-15 feet) are very high percentage shots for all pro teams.
Our guys often struggle with these shots even when wide open; not to mention shots from behind the arc.
Losing to tcu is extremely disappointing; but not shocking. And it doesn’t mean Beard has forgotten how to coach.
The frogs have beaten top 20 teams—LSU and TTU for example. They are not chopped liver.

The horns will be well rested and fired up come Big Dance time. Bet on it.

You guys beat me too it, but the Spurs actually had some players that can shoot. You can't stretch the floor when you have no outside shooting and our opponents gambled on this. Maybe we won a couple of games because Jones got Hot, but we lost more when he was cold. Carr was also inconsistent, as well as Febres.

The only halfway consistent outside threat was Ramey. He and Timmy carried the team. Ramey also shut down some very talented opponents. He's the team MVP. You have Ramey, Timmy and a bunch of JAG's. You can only expect so much. It was one of the best defensive efforts ever.

That's exactly right!

The bar was set very high for this program last year--Big 12 Tournament Champions :trophy:. And this year, we didn't even come close.

Hopefully, the Big Dance will be a lot different, and Beard will turn into another "Tournament Tom". We'll face teams unused to this level of defense. We're looking at the Sweet 16, or better. It ain't over, it's just beginning.

Throw out the last loss to TCU and the team beats who they theoretically should and loses to who they theoretically should lose to. So I expect a win in the first round of the tourney and a loss in the second round.
That would be mathematically correct.

Just my uneducated opinion, this team has over achieved.

* We are undersized, disu was supposed to help but he has not probably because he has not recovered from his injury.

* We do NOT have a go to player when we need a basket. Carr and Allen are our best choices and they lack the athletic ability to beat the person guarding them on a regular basis. We really could have used one in this game.

* We do NOT have a true point guard and this has been true since the first year of Smart when he inherited one left by Barnes. Coleman was a combo guard, not a true point. A quick check of his assist to turn over ratio will tell you why I have this opinion. Barnes seemed to always have a good point. On a side note for all the mourners from this game, the 2003 final 4 team lost to ttu in the first round. No, I do not expect to go to the final four. I do expect to win one.

* Generally, we are a good FT shooting team but have missed FTs at crunch time in several games we would have won. That bothers me.

This team plays hard and I think that Beard knows the best way to win with his personnel and not our board resident experts.

We can disagree on MUCH but can we agree we need a sniper? We just can’t recruit this “player”. Baylor and Kansas do EVERY YEAR!

Stretching the floor is a good thing!

I was very optimistic going into this season because of the "sum of the parts" we acquired through transfers. In a vacuum, all of those guys should have been enough to give us points, boards, defense, depth, better movement, speed, etc.

Outside of Allen, we got "lookalike" versions of those players who didn't really match their respective levels of play from 2020-21.

I kind of expect Ramey and Febres to have up-and-down games, but Jones needs to pull it together for the tournament. Without his leadership, we'll lose handily.

Big 12 is 5-0 so far. TCU just started their game with Seton Hall, and leading early. 5-1, should the Frogs lose; or 6-0 should they win. A damm good start for the Big 12 either way. Evidence that the Big 12 is the best conference in the country, arguably.
