Big 10/Pac 10

I was curious/thinking....
Who decides and what should be the threshold for what qualifies as a legitimate season?
I mean...a conference playing 8 games vs one playing 10.....Is that equitable?
Why not just play 6 and make it real easy to get your team to the CFP??
Would/Should a 10-0, 9-0 or 9-1 team receive favor over an 8-0 one?
I think other conferences will have to approve.
Seems to me we could move the playoffs back a week or two.

Now I'm seeing an 8 game schedule with a championship week.
Also something about the 2nd place teams from each division playing each other during this week.

The Big 10 has managed to surpass the idiocy of their decision back in August. Starting so late they'll have no option for bye weeks. Any player who tests positive has to quarantine for 21 days. This has disaster written all over it.

Poor PAC, all alone in their cave, quarantined away for a Black Plague that never came. Reminds me of the cult in the movie Poltergeist, who shut themselves off for the end of the world and just died in the dark.

No loss.

It's never been equitable. Schools in some conferences (SEC comes to mind) in a typical year load up 4 patsies and 8 conference games. So really they're only playing 8 legitimate games.

I'm glad they are having a championship game since they have a short season.
I fear though, that ohio state may bump us out of the playoffs.
I guess if Alabama Clemson Ohio State and Texas wins every game then those teams will be in the playoffs. Is LSU playing bama? well it don't matter because I think bama beats LSU anyway.

Yep....I was thinking the same. There should be some guidelines perhaps.

If your school took a pass on the season subsequently were forced to grow a pair then you can play for a second tier championship (think NIT in basketball). The schools that stepped up play for the big prize.

Not sure anyone else in the country cares if the PAC plays this year. Actually I take that back - most of the rest of the country probably hopes they don't play.

They add nothing to the national championship race, and the rest of the country is tired of the endless virtue signaling. A month ago all us hicks in the B12, SEC, ACC were PUTTING PROFITS OVER PEOPLE!!!!

Now that we're playing football and still alive, they want to sneak in so they don't lose out on the money? Screw them. Don't they have forest fires they need to put out? Maybe the players can go suit up and grab a shovel.

USA Today article by Christine Brennan:
Note the date: 9/16/20, the day the vaunted Big Ten became the SEC. It choked. It got scared. It sold its soul for football. My @usatodaysports column on the darkest day in Big Ten history: Big Ten football decision marks darkest day in conference's history

Response from Will Cain:
Not Larry Nasser. Not Jerry Sandusky. The “darkest day”, she says, is opening up local communities, businesses, aspirations and wishes of young athletes. The “darkest day” is a return to normalcy. So many people that cover sports, hate sports. https://t.co/oMeL1GiFvj

Thanks, Creek I needed a good laugh this afternoon.

No Burrow, We played them the closest and really should of won, Revenge game for us, No home fans, Ehlinger Senior, etc...anything the SEC does is for a reason. They pulled that game -not us. They schedule patsy week every year instead of playing another SEC team. They're always hoping to get 2 in the playoffs. Losing to Texas kills that off.
Those people blamed our air conditioning last year. If that isn't some chickenshit bs ...from a classless school.
Your argument?

The SEC isn't running from any team and certainly not one coached by Tom Herman. LSU loses, they blame it on covid. They win, they have knocked off the 900 pound gorilla in the most fertile recruiting ground in the world. LSU, Georgia, & Alabama understand that and would take that gamble. They would much rather play us than Arkansas or one of the Mississippi schools. A win over the champion of the Big XII insures two SEC teams on the final four; a loss means Alabama has a patsy in first game and is in the finals.

PAC 10 problem is the states, could have stopped there.

Their residents are known to merrily mingle in the downtown areas, in small, cozy encampments
I don’t want to nitpick but you know very well that these comments are drifting off-topic and into an area that does not belong here. I get reports of it from other members, then I have to come here and address it with you before others start creeping over that line and thinking it is OK, which creates more work for me.

I am very grateful to HF sponsors but there is no special treatment on this issue. If you want to withdraw your support, do it now, I don’t care. I’m not having this.

Yep...They will be behind the 8 ball. Apparantly not good at homework nor plain and simple observation.

Texas had one lead in that game, 10-7 from a long TD pass., and was behind the rest of the game after that. Texas would have had to have stopped LSU's offence in the 4th quarter to break serve and take the lead, and they never did. 3 possession by LSU, 3 TD's. It was a close exciting game, but barring some INT for TD, Texas never had a shot at it.

The concept of a "revenge" game is drastically oversold. If it was a driver, then Texas should be the odds on favorite most years against OU as OU has owned the series this century - 14 and 7 I believe. Yet they still keep on winning.

I belive the SEC cancelled all out of conference games for the early part of the season. We'll see if the later ones like Ga / Ga Tech and Florida/FSU play, but all the early ones were cancelled, and I don't think that was done just to avoid Texas / LSU.

All conferences hope to get 2 teams in the playoffs, it's just that the B12 often has a hard time having the runner up not have 3-4 losses, same (or worse) with the ACC.

It would have been a great game, and a true early test on how good this Texas team is - lots of Yeah!!! after the first game, but UTEP was both a hired chump, and terrible to boot. Not a good indicator of how good Texas will be. But it wasn't canceled due to some Machiavellian scheme by the SEC.

SEC has plenty of non top 50 teams in conf to soften the conf schedule in the last few years Vandy, Arkie, TN, or Mizzo plus Miss and MSt have problems.

B12 has a couple of weaker CFB teams but SEC can schedule several to make the year to compensate for the Top 4+/- teams
