Castlevania Symphony of the Night (Playstation)

The swan song for side-scrollers is the best game ever made. The music, controls, and gameplay are perfect. I challenge any of you not to have an absolute blast playing this game.

There have been a whole lot of games I wasted a whole lot of hours on... and I could make a case for most of them. That said, far and away the most addicting game I've ever played was Tetris.

I would probably put GoldenEye put there... and Joust... and Shadow of the Colossus... and XCOM... and , and and and

For me, Goldeneye (by far)
played a lot of NCAA with Weinke on the cover and Mario Carts too.

I pretty much agree with what's already been posted.

The original Civilization consumed my sophomore year of high school in its entirety. Civilization III was much better, but I didn't play it nearly as much. Seems like Civilization IV might be the the best of the lot, but I haven't played it at all.

I never played Goldeneye. That's probably a good thing.

Goldeneye

That game completely changed the landscape of multiplayer gaming. All of the most popular console games are derivatives of that game.

I rate the game in not just how awesome they were to pklay, but also in their impact on future games. So...my list.
