Best sushi in Austin

Hands down, Mikado on Burnet and 183. Not even up for discussion.

And yes, I do see the irony of making this claim on a discusson board.

where else in Austin have you been?

This is very important to me as I eat sushi more than I'd like. If there are good places that I haven't been to I need to know about them.

Is it really better than Kenichi or Mushashino?

I might agree with that. I went to Mikado for the first time a while back and was really impressed. I've been meaning to go again. The sushi I had there was better than what I typically get at Mushashino (which had been my favorite)--if they can keep that up I'd agree it is the best.

I don't eat sushi, but a few of my bros swear up and down that Mikado is the ****. They used to eat it somewhere else all the time, no idea where, but apparently this Mikado place is the best, at least according to them.

Been to sushi places in NY, Miami, LA, Aspen, Dallas and most of the popular ones in Austin (Musashino, Kenichi, Koreana, etc...). I'd say Mikado is right up there with the best any of those cities have to offer and blows anything from Austin out of the water.

Very friendly wait staff gives you a Japanese welcome and good-bye. Fresh fish and great prices.

musashino is pure dogshit. have not been to mikado yet

if sasaki gets a hold of this thread, you'll have 34 posts by him about how sasaki is the best sushi in houston or somesuch.

i like musashino. I think it's better than kenichi (plus i don't have to wear all black and slick back my hair). it's also better than umi, both sushi sake's and koreana.

I have yet to try mikado.

DK's Seoul, Korea on South 1st? Street is very good (it's a dive, but great sushi). As is Mushashino. I haven't had Kenichi, but I hear it's crap. Mikado continues to get great reviews.

In no way is Kenichi crap...if you do not like the atmosphere, so be it. But the sashimi is so much better than Musashino it is not even close....guess I will have to make the long haul up to Mikado this week and try it out...

Is Seoul still doing sushi pimp night? I need to get back there for that.

That was the first place I've had sushi and it was good enough that I've kept eating it.

When you guys say "good sushi" you mean those fancy rolls, right? Otherwise, isn't a piece of raw fish a piece of raw fish? As long as it's fresh, I don't see the difference.

I usually goto the korean places for some reason. I've been to UMi, it was good.

chance,

you could put sushi from 10 different places in front of these yokels and they wouldn't be able to tell you where it was from. they just like to sound like they know what the **** they are talking about.

except fat bastard. i'll give anyone that eats as much as he does the benefit of the doubt.

One of my Taiwanese vendors took me out for sushi the other day at Sushi Sake in the Gateway Center. Pretty good, but expensive. We ran up a $50 tab for two people during lunch.

this reminds me of the thread where you went on and on about how horrilbe UT basketball fans were for not attending home games and supporting the team.....and then added the tidbit of info that you sat at home in Austin and watched the game from your sofa

i don't remember criticisizing the fans, just the drum. but you gotta admit, it took nads to own up to that.
