best heavy metal song ever?

"Run to the Hills" - Iron Maiden

I don't have a lot of love for the genre, but shouldn't it be:

ironman by black sabbath

Excellent point, Maduro. There are many different ideas on what Heavy Metal is. Hair bands, speed/thrash, rock and a host of other types are all considered to be metal to some. That is what will make this thread interesting and fun.

I go with Stryper, "To Hell With The Devil". Sorry but this post is more worthless with pictures and video.

This thread would be a lot more useful if people would actually say what they're linking too and not making it a guessing game.

finger, you get props for listing the best song so far on here, but i wouldn't call it heavy metal.

But, indeed Stigmata is an INTENSE song. Ahhh, reliving the glory days of Ministry and the Revolting Cocks.

I think you are all forgetting the song that created the genre (at least the name) of heavy metal, Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf.

I'll go with "Raining Blood" by Slayer (fast tempo, double bass drums, sick lyrics, twin guitars that sound that they could have come from Lucifer and his closest friend, the scream by the lead singer, etc.). It doesn't get more metal than this.

man, all time? that's tough.

fade to black: metallica
seasona in the abyss: slayer
twist of cain: danzig

I would go more for "thieves" than"stigmata" if i were including ministry for heavy metal.

so many songs. agree with a lto of the above.

Slayer's -- Angel of Death has to be in the discussion. Sheer intensity and one of the best guitar riff breakdowns in the middle of the song.

"Big Bottoms" is great, but being an all bass number, it lacks Nigel Tufnel's guitar stylings.

"Heavy Duty" or "Tonight I'm gonna Rock you Tonight"...now that's rock and roll.
